Here's what the humans have to say about me:
This handsome face is coming from South Korea at the end of October! Meet Chandler, he's a 'tripaw" who was found wandering the streets with a missing paw. Maybe he got it stuck in a trap or other hazard? Maybe someone was abusive to him? We’ll never know. But luckily, he’s healed from his injury and is adjusting to life as a companion animal. But fear not, he gets around and is a happy little pup now that he’s being fostered in a home until he makes his way to Oregon in a few weeks. We believe he's 18 months to 2 years old and weighs between 35-40 lbs.
This is from his foster in South Korea:
"Chandler is very sweet and calm inside. Outside, he likes to explore. He doesn’t pull on the leash but isn’t trained to heel or not sniff every little smell (but hey, it’s his walk he told me!) He walks well (and pretty fast) on his 3 legs and even climbs up on the large rocks around our house. He’s quite nimble. He is a little timid until he realizes that you’re not going to hit him… then he’s all smiles. He’s a quiet boy; when we meet the neighborhood dogs, he doesn’t over react. However, he needs to be introduced slowly to new friends. He gets along better with female dogs. I’m currently also pet-sitting a large female Golden-Doodle and with the right introductions, they’re getting along great in the house. He’s still a little hesitant with his missing paw and doesn’t like his feet touched. I would love to see this handsome fella get a prosthetic paw – he’d be an awesome trekking or hiking dog (with some training of course). He does sometime grab your hand with his mouth – much like a lab “mouths.” But he absolutely doesn’t put any pressure on – it’s his only way of telling you he doesn’t want you to do something. For example, I pick him up and put him on the couch with me in the evening – if he doesn’t want to be picked up, he’ll put my hand in his mouth. When I tell him “it’s ok, I won’t pick you up” (which normally he doesn’t mind) he gets that goofy smile on his face – I’m pretty sure he knows when you’re listening to him! While I think he’d be fine with another dog in the house, he’d probably prefer a quiet household, but with an active person/family that will let him get his street dog curiosity fulfilled. He currently gets three 30-60 min walks each day. He is not ready to be off leash. He’s really smart and learns fast, but the breed is very independent so I’m not sure he will ever be a great off leash dog… he’ll take off on his own adventure if not supervised. If you have a fenced yard, he’d probably be OK with you out there playing with him –but left to his own devices, I can see him finding a way to let himself out for a “selfie.” He does sleep on my bed and does very well (he’s not a cover hog!) He hasn’t quite figured out how to play with toys yet, but I’m sure it’s just a matter of feeling a little more comfortable with his situation. This is a great pup with an easy-going calm personality and will make a wonderful companion for someone who will understand his unique needs! I don’t have a cat, but he has been previously been reported as one who likes to chase them!
Chandler has been in the crate in my house, and while he doesn’t hate it, he’d much prefer to be on his own in the house. He hasn’t chewed on anything – not even his rawhide! But I’m working on getting him to chew on rawhides to help keep his pearly whites in good shape. He is *mostly* housetrained, but has marked in the house a few times. (he will be neutered when he gets to the US) I work a full day so he would benefit from someone who is home a little more often. As he continues to gain strength and weight, he will need more training to make sure he doesn’t become a runner! His missing paw doesn’t seem to bother him at all. While he does very well with his situation, he does sometimes trip up with his leg tucked up. He’ll need a person/family that will help him continue to gain confidence and trust!
Chandler has been around kids in a limited capacity and did fine. But maybe he’s suited best for a household with either older kids who will respect his space (he doesn’t like anyone to touch his feet – can you blame him??) or with adults only. He didn’t snap or react to the kids in my neighborhood, but did stand behind me when they got to be a bit too much for him. It’s early and he’s still adjusting to his new life – So maybe a bit of quiet while he adjusts. "
