My story

Here's what the humans have to say about me:

Hello there! Thank-you for clicking on my profile, I’d love to meet you. Let me tell you a little bit about adopting me.

My name is Nicole and I am a 3 year old spayed female Terrier mix who came to the kind folks at NBS Animal Rescue when my friends Kim, Lisa, and I were found as strays by a nice Animal Control Officer. We were so scared - we hid under a dumpster shaking like a leaf. We were so hungry, cold, and itchy - you see we weren't well cared for and had so many itchy fleas biting our skin! A few kind Animal Control Officers slowly gained our trust and reached out to NBS to help us feel better and find our fur-ever homes.

Since that day I was found under a dumpster it's been a wonderful adventure learning how to trust humans and love my new life! The kind volunteers at NBS got rid of all my horrible fleas, gave me a soothing warm bath, some tasty food, and took me to see the doggy doctor. I've been learning that humans can be gentle and kind, that other dogs can be friendly and gentle, and that the world isn't so scary after all.

I'm learning how to do my personal business outside, but still need some help in keeping me on a schedule and giving me lots of positive reinforcement when I remember to go outside. I get along well with most other small and friendly dogs who will allow me to get to know them on my own time and not overwhelm me. I love spending time with people I trust, although I do take a bit to warm up to new people, once I know you won't hurt me I quickly become your best friend. My foster mom has helped me to learn how to walk on a leash and to explore a fenced yard while supervised. I'm learning what toys are, and that new people can be gentle and bring tasty treats!

I'm looking for a quiet home with a family who is home often and will be patient with me. Because I am a nervous nelly I need a home without small children under the age of 12. I would love a doggy friend to live with if they were friendly and good with other dogs. I am currently living with a kitty cat and we get along very well.

My friends at NBS Animal Rescue are helping me to find the perfect fur-ever home. All of the dogs in our rescue are have different personalities and needs within an adoptive home. Not all of my friends here at NBS Animal Rescue have the same requirements, so if I’m not be the perfect fit for your family- be sure to check out my other doggy friends too! For me?

These are the things I fur-sure need in my fur-ever home!
- Family who is gone no longer than 5 hour periods.
-Children must be 12yrs or older
- 100% fenced in yard preferred, or detailed description of multiple dog walks a day. No electric fences please.

If you think I might be the perfect addition to your family please follow these steps:

1.) Visit www.nbsar.org to fill out my adoption application. As an approved adopter, my rescue friends can set up a home visit so I can meet you. Our rescue is 100% run by volunteers, to help your application be processed as quickly as possible, please make sure to….

2.) Call your veterinarian and give them permission to release information about your current and past pet’s veterinary history.

3.) Call your references too! Let them know to expect a phone call from an unknown phone number, and a rescue team member will need to talk to them on the phone as a reference.

My adoption fee is $250.00 and includes a DHPP vaccine, bordatella vaccine, de-worming, spay/neuter surgery, rabies vaccine (age appropriate), heartworm test (age appropriate), heartworm preventative, flea/tick preventative, microchip insertion, bath, nail trim, ear cleaning, leash and collar and one week's worth of food. If you’d like to meet me, please apply online and to become an approved adopter!

Our adoption process requires that any pet in your household be current on vaccinations and heartworm preventative , spayed/neutered (unless a documented medical reason is on file with your veterinarian). Dogs must be current on Distemper DHPP combo vaccine and Rabies vaccine, cats must be current on Distemper and Rabies at the time of application. This also applies to any pets in your home within the past five years.

While I hope that you have fallen in love with me and are ready to apply, I understand if I might not be the perfect pup for your family just yet. However, would you please help by sharing my picture on Facebook, twitter or by email? I'm a great pup and need a loving family to give all of my love and puppy kisses to! Thank-you for your help!
