My basic info
Here's what the humans have to say about me:
Hello!! My name is Birdie and I would like to tell you all about me. I am a 13 year young Quaker Parrot. Since Quakers can live approximately 30 years with the right diet, exercise and care, I still have a lot of years left!
My first Mommy and I grew up together, but due to changes in her life such as school and this thing called "work", she was not able to give me all the time and attention we birds like. That is okay, though, as she found out about Florida Parrot Rescue and now I am with a foster Mommy who will take care of me until I can find my forever home.
I LOVE everyone - men, women and children alike. I am even ok with those 4 footed creatures called dogs. My previous Mommy told FPR that I don't mind cats either. But even though I like them, you MUST NEVER leave me unattended when the dogs or cats are out. This could be a real danger to me and I could get hurt or even worse. Remember, I am just a small bird and need to be supervised if the cats and dogs are out and about.
Right now I do have a dislike for pellets!! YUCK!!! But I will learn to like them if you slowly add them to my food dish with my seed and start to not give me as much seed. Pellets are so much better for me I've been told. So far I don't like nuts but I do like some fruits and vegetables. I do have one treat that I just LOVE. That would be popcorn!!! YUMMY YUMMY!!! But my foster Mommy only gives it to me once in awhile, which is the right thing to do. After all, you don't want me to just start to eat only popcorn!! (please make sure if you are going to continue to give me popcorn once you adopt me, it's unsalted and unbuttered)
Now, let's talk about my play time and what I like to do. I like it when my foster Mommy gets me out of my cage and lets me sit on her shoulder for a long time. During this time I get to roam around the chair and my foster Mommy's arm and then back up to her shoulder. My foster Mommy says I would stay there all day if she would let me as I think this is awesome. But she says that I do need some time to just entertain myself once in awhile and that is okay with me. I don't mind.
I am usually a quiet bird until you leave the room. Then I will squawk and squawk until you come back into the room that I am in - then all is okay again. My squawks can be loud, just so you know. I will talk, but only when I am in the mood. I can say things like "up up", "night - night", "what's that", "come here" and "good girl" (even though no one knows if I am a boy or a girl).
When I do have to entertain myself I play with these things called "toys". I do like to shred paper and things like that, but I have this one special toy that is a string with 2 keys attached that I love to tangle. It is fun to watch how long it can take someone to untangle this for me, just so I can do it again. I am very mischievous!! HA HA!!
When it is my bedtime, I do like to be covered. That makes me feel secure and then I know it is time for bed. Please remember that we birds do need at least 10 or more hours of down time to keep us happy and healthy. Sleep is important to us!!
There are some things that my new forever family will have to work with me on such as my diet and my separation anxiety but I know that I will bring lots of
enjoyment and loads of love to the family who adopts me. Could that be you?? Hope you come to visit me real soon.
