My story

Here's what the humans have to say about me:

These two little boys (2 years old) were born underneath a neighborhood shed. Myles is a shorthair back-and white tuxedo cat and Monty is a tall all-black shorthair. Their mother is a tame cat with a great personality, and she was adopted through PetCo. Their two siblings were adopted as barn cats. However, when Myles and Monty received their rabies, FVRCP, and leukemia shots, Monty was fine, but unfortunately Myles developed a high fever (104-degree) the next day and almost died despite excellent vet care. Consequently, he suffered neurological damage that resulted in ataxia (uncoordinated motor activity and weakness) in his hind legs, which means that he cannot jump up using his back legs, but instead jumps using only his front legs and shoulders.

Because the two brothers stayed together and played regularly, over time Myles was able to learn how to compensate for his deficits. He is very clever and has figured out how to use workarounds to climb up instead of jumping up. He has grown to be a very handsome cat and has filled out, so you don't notice his disability at first; however, our vet has said that Myles needs to be an indoor-only cat, as he will never be strong enough or fast enough to navigate outside. The vet recommended that Myles never be given any more shots, as we don't know which of the shots caused him to have the fever. Myles is a real love bug and lap kitty, who likes to fall asleep in your lap and watch TV with you. He is very affectionate and loves to be stroked, and he is more sensitive to being touched as a result of his neurological condition.

Monty has also grown and become strong. He is a tall and lanky cat, who loves to play and wrestle with other cats. He is a very happy and active cat, quite popular with the other cats in the household, and makes new friends easily. He is also affectionate, although he seeks you out to be petted and stroked only about once a day, usually at night. Both brothers like to sleep either on the bed or in the bedroom at night to be near you, and both are very sweet little boys. Please contact PAWS at (970) 209-3656 to meet Myles and Monty!
