Here's what the humans have to say about me:
Chloe Ann is a cute little 3 year old, 5 pound Yorkie girl with some potential neurological issues. She is being fostered in Dunedin, FL. Her adoption fee is $375.
UPDATED BIO 10/07/2017: Chloe Ann is a very beautiful – and very special – little yorkie girlie. Chloe Ann has come a long way since first coming to UYR. Her personality is really starting to evolve and she is a little darling. She came into UYR with some potential neurological issues and an MRI of her brain was performed to determine exactly what was going on with this sweet girl. Read about the results of the MRI in previous updates. After many tests, it was determined that Chloe Ann is in good health except for a little bit of fluid on her brain which could explain some of her odd, but endearing behaviors. In spite of some neurological deficits, Chloe Ann is proving herself to be a loving little girl who will make a wonderful family member for the right family.
Here’s the fun stuff about Chloe Ann that truly shows her sweet personality and adoptability:
- Chloe Ann is very sweet natured and gets along well with other dogs – and kitty cats, too!
- She loves her foster parents and enjoys laying on the arm of the chair with foster mom, and will gently nibble on her hand when she is petted – this means she is really enjoying the attention.
- She loves going through doorways, both inside and out. She seems to enjoy this activity, even though there’s no purpose in doing this. If foster mom or dad chases her, that’s even better. She is VERY high-energy and this may be a self-soothing way for her to burn off her energy.
- Chloe Ann loves to spin in circles in front of a door (any door will do), and will escape easily if the door is opened. She is a runner and waits for any opportunity to run out the door in a lickety-split action if given the chance.
- When Chloe Ann looks at you, it may not appear that she is always looking directly at you. She also does this when she looks at other dogs/objects, so it was initially thought that she may have partial blindness. However, she has seen an eye specialist and there is no indication of blindness or eye issues. This is just another one of her quirky behaviors.
If Chloe Ann is at the front door, foster mom has learned that she may need to go outside to do her business. As a result, she is being slowly housetrained. She could be easily trained to go on a pee-pee-pad.
When Chloe Ann first came to UYR, she had a bad habit of barking all the time. Since being with foster mom, her barking has decreased to the point of only barking when she really needs something – usually food. Every so often, she will bark for a short time, for reasons only she knows, but that’s just typical Yorkietude. Because of the occasional barking, Foster Mom feels that Chloe Ann can only go to a single-family home – apartment/condo living wouldn’t be an appropriate placement for this special girl. PLEASE NOTE: Because of Chloe Ann’s small size, she can not be adopted into a home with children under the age of 12 years old.
The perfect home for Chloe Ann would be one with at least one stay-at-home parent, and an active family who can take her for long walks to burn off some of her boundless energy. She also needs a fenced-in back yard where she can enjoy exercising in a safe area.
Because of all the testing that was done for Chloe Ann, her medical bills are very high. If you have been moved by this sweet girl’s ability to move beyond her small challenges, please consider donating towards her vetting expenses so that UYR will be able to help another little dog like Chloe Ann. UPDATED BIO 09/12/2017: Chloe Ann is a very beautiful and very special little yorkie girlie. She was surrendered to UYR because her owners thought she had partial blindness and some other other behaviors that indicated visual impairment. Since arriving in her foster home, Chloe Ann has seen an eye specialist who confirmed that she did not have a problem with her eyes, so we proceeded with an MRI to determine what, if anything, was the issue.
The MRI determined that Chloe Ann has a little bit of fluid on her brain, which makes her behavior a little odd. The fluid on the mid-brain controls her visual and auditory (hearing) sensors, and this is the issue with her eyesight. In addition, it was determined that the fluid was also affecting the cerebellum, which controls fine motor skills, and the thalamus, which controls her compulsive and motor relay.
Chloe Ann is currently taking a medication called omeprazole which helps reduce the fluid on her brain by opening up the channels so the fluid can flow more freely. She will need to be on this medication for the rest of her life.
Now for the fun stuff! Chloe Ann is truly a joy to be around and her “odd” behaviors (quirks) are actually rather cute. She likes to run in circles and bark, which shows she’s very talented! She gets along well with other dogs and kitty cats, too! She loves to steal napkins off your lap and run with them, but will drop if you ask her to drop.
She also has some other adorable quirks, and once you learn what her bark means, and do what she “tells” you to do, she will stop barking. She barks when she is hungry, wants to play and go outside. Because she has only been in her foster home a short time, foster mom wouldn’t consider her to be house-trained, but belives with some one-on-one training, house-training could be learned since she is a smart little girlie
Chloe Ann’s barking behavior was initially excessive, but this has decreased since starting the medication. However, because of her barking, she can only go to a single-family home – apartment/condo living wouldn’t be an appropriate placement for this special girl.
PLEASE NOTE: Because of Chloe Ann’s small size, she can not be adopted into a home with children under the age of 12 years old.
INITIAL BIO 07/31/2017: Chloe Ann is a very adorable 3 year old 7 lb. Yorkie girl who just arrived at her foster home. She has had a very rough start at life, and has already been in three homes prior to coming into UYR. Chloe was surrendered to UYR because her previous owners loved her, but felt that Chloe may be happier - and healthier - in another home. Chloe has exhibited some behaviors that need to be evaluated and she will not be ready for adoption until she has seen a specialist. You see, Chloe Ann may be almost completely blind in both eyes, which is very uncommon at her age, and this may be reversible depending on a neuro evaluation.
We don’t yet know what the cause of her blindness is, but we want her to have the best medical care in order to determine that. Chloe Ann has a history of circling at the front door and barking in the air, but has not done this since being in her foster home. Foster Mom has noted that she appears to be a very stressed little girl, and this could be because she is adjusting to the onset of blindness and her new foster home.
Since arriving in her foster home, she seems to have calmed down a bit, and is getting along well with her new furbaby friends. Chloe Ann is a very sweet, good-natured little girlie, and is starting to learn her way around her new environment. She will not be available for adoption until we have a definite diagnosis on her blindness and general well being.
Because Chloe Ann’s testing will be very expensive, we are asking for donations to help with her medical care. If you find it in your heart to help Chloe Ann get the care she needs, please click on the donate button underneath her bio – all donations are appreciated and will allow us to help Chloe Ann and eventually find a loving forever home where she will never ever have to leave.
