Here's what the humans have to say about me:
Foster update 1/14/09:
Here is a fresh picture of Mr. Pilgrim looking a lot better. He is doing great, gaining weight and learning humans are pretty good to have around (especially at snack time). He hasn't had any problems with the heartworm treatment so far, but we have one more to go, so we are praying for the best for him. He is a really sweet and funny little guy.
Update 11/29/08:
It seems our little fella Pilgrim has turned the corner and is on the road to recovery. It has been a rough few days for all of us - mostly him - but I am happy to report he is a back to eating and feeling much better. The congestion in his lungs is starting to break up and we are still nebulizing him three to four times daily. He has decided he likes food a lot but will turn down his kibble because he knows we are willing to share our food with him or cook for him. I think he may be coming a tad spoiled. If he wasn't so thin I would wait him out on the kibble but he is so thin he doesn't have even an ounce to spare. Every time we go into the kitchen he is there with his sweet begging eyes. Tonight I put his dog food on a people plate and he ate it right up. Guess I won that one. Tomorrow I will probably go to McDonald's and load up on dollar burgers for him.
Thanks to everyone for your kind words and prayers for him. From the looks of him today I would have to say it worked.
About Pilgrim and Foster Update 11/26/08:
At this time of year we all have so much to be thankful for. I am hoping for a Thanksgiving wish for our foster Pilgrim. Last week, Cil rescued Pilgrim from the Pasadena Animal shelter. He is loaded with parasites, heartworm positive, intact and it looks like someone or something burned him down his back. He also has a scar on his throat from a chain or collar getting embedded. On top of all this he is about 20 pounds underweight. In spite of all of this, he is a beautiful dog and has the sweetest personality.
After spending a few days at Dickinson Animal Hospital, we brought him home so we could foster him and get him back on the road of a better life. All was going well and then Sunday he became very lethargic and stopped eating. He also developed a cough. He has been to the clinic everyday this past week. He has no fever, his blood work looks good and his x-rays of his heart looked good as well. His lungs are congested though. Additional lab tests were ordered and have been sent out with the results pending due to the holidays.
Meanwhile, Pilgrim is home with us and I am nebulizing him several times a day to prevent pneumonia. Hopefully, we will get the results back soon and figure out what is going on with guy. He has been down a rough road and it's time for him to get a break. The not knowing has been very frustrating and it is hard to see him this way.
Please keep Pilgrim in your thoughts and prayers. He could sure use every ounce of help he can get.
