Meet beautiful Pumpernickel. He is a gentle, sweet, shy cat that was recently rescued from a pretty sad situation. His and his house mate's story was even reported in the NY Times:

But that is all in the past and there's no looking back! Pumpernickel has come a long way since he's been in my foster care and he's ready to shine. He loves treats and windows! He'll hide at first but when he gets to know you, he likes petting, takes treats gently from your hand, plays with toys and feels comfortable enough to lounge out in the open. Cuddly stuff will come with time I'm certain of it, he just needs patience and winning him over will be so rewarding. Having come from a home with many cats, Pumpernickel might prefer a cat buddy... Or two! (but this is not required)

Prefer an NYC area adoption but will consider otherwise.
