When you envision the perfect partner what do you think of? Friendly? Social? Good with friends, neighbors, and relatives? Cuddly? Sweet? Kind? Gentle? Playful? Affectionate? Attentive? Handsome/Beautiful?
What if I told you I have the (almost) perfect dog! His name is Shep! He's a purebred panda marked German Shepherd Dog who is around 1.5 years old.
Shep was a stray picked up outside of Waco Texas. His foster loved him so much they agreed to sponsor his way to Washington state to find the PERFECT home for him.
Shep is all that and a bag of chips with one significant issue. He is clingy. Shep has severe separation anxiety.
Shep does not like to be alone, and although having other animals does help, he gets very stressed out when contained. He will hurt himself trying to escape a crate or kennel. His ideal home has experience with SA, or will be willing to work with him to do whatever it takes including consulting a behaviorist. Shep has some evidence of his anxiety including a chipped lower canine and loss of vision in his right eye due to trauma that was never properly treated.
Despite it all Shep is loving, gentle and polite. He has done well with all dogs, cats, and children he has come across thus far. He would truly make a great addition to most families and I feel he would love to be a therapy dog visiting folks in nursing homes and hospitals if his owner was so inclined to put in the work.
If someone is home all the time and you need a wonderful companion that you can safely take everywhere, Shep is for you. If you want the *almost* epitome of a perfect dog, and are willing to work on his issues with him, or take him to doggy day care while you are away Shep is for you!
He is neutered, heartworm negative, up to date on all vaccinations. Shep can not safely use a crate due to his anxiety but is house trained. We strongly believe that with a few months (maybe years) of consistency, positive reinforcement, and proper routine/exercise that he may overcome these issues.
His adoption fee is $350.
