Kona was turned into the Hayward Animal Shelter as a stray at the end of April. She was in their adoption ward for 3 months. Like many of the dogs (especially pitbull mixes) that often spend weeks or months in the shelter, she became more increasingly restless (these dogs really need fulltime human companionship to be happy and well-adjusted). The shelter decided it was time to euthanize her. However, shelter volunteers that worked with her regularly, reached out to Nobody's Perfekt Dogs to save her.
For now, we are recommending that she go to a home with no other dogs. While in the shelter, she had "mixed results" when meeting other dogs. Now that she is spayed, we will be re-evaluating her dog meet skills.
At our adoption center in the Bayfair mall, Kona hasn't been comfortable with the young children that often come to visit. We are recommending a home with no children or older teens. We are not sure how she would be with cats, so probably not an option.
