My story

Here's what the humans have to say about me:

WE ARE SORRY BUT WE ON;Y ADOPT WITHIN THE STATE OF FLORIDA

Pelle is a sweet, laid back Husky who was picked up as a stray by animal services. Her name comes from a Swedish children's story about a tailless cat.

Unfortunately she arrived with a large mass covering 80% of her tail's circumference at the base that ruptured and required the amputation of her fluffy tail. Thankfully the mass on her tail was benign and she has recovered well from her surgery. The hair on her backside that was shaved from her surgery is expected to take a couple months to fully grown back in.

Pelle is a petite Husky who gets along well with other dogs and very friendly with everyone she meets. Despite her mostly relaxed disposition, she does have some alpha tendencies with other dogs but has no issues as long as the other dogs respect her. She has also demonstrated some resource guarding with the resident dogs but not with her human foster family.

Pelle is crate trained but does not need to be crated as she behaves well and is non-destructive when left home alone. However, she quickly discovered that there is sometimes free food if you jump up on the counter and as a result she will scavenge for any available food that may have been left and therefore should be kept out of the kitchen when unsupervised if there is any food kept out.

Pelle is vocal from time to time as she enjoys talking to her foster siblings or telling you not to stop petting her. She has a hilariously deep Husky voice for a tiny lady Husky. Pelle is eager to please as well as learn and since she is very treat motivated she picks up quickly. Pelle knows the sit and down commands so far and her foster parents are working on teaching her some other basic commands.

She has a very unique "prance" when walking quickly. Unlike the typical Husky trot which can be kept up for miles, she has a floating, almost weightless trot that is very reminiscent of a beautiful Arabian filly left to run free in a paddock. If you have never seen this it’s worth a look on Youtube; https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=PSeAud__qxg.

She does exhibit a high prey drive and is kept separate from the cats in her foster home, so we recommend a home without cats. Pelle enjoys a good snuggle and does fine with older children, but hasn't been exposed to younger ones.

Pelle is Heartworm positive and her adopter will be provided with instructions regarding her treatment. She is otherwise healthy, housebroken, up-to-date on vaccines, spayed, and microchipped. Poor Pelle has been through a lot and would love to snuggle up with you anywhere, floor or couch (if allowed) and she is content to sleep in or under your bed.
