Here's what the humans have to say about me:
Zouri is our little 4 year old, 8 pound adorable Yorkie Pup. This sweet baby has faced some hard times and may be facing more. Little Zouri is being fostered in Mobile, AL.
Zouri's adoption fee is $375 and includes all vetting (neuter/spay, dental cleaning, immunizations, microchip and chip registration). A Vet reference, personal references, and home visit are required for adoption. You may apply to adopt Zouri by going to our website at www.unitedyorkierescue.org and completing the adoption application located on our home page.
UPDATED BIO 09/01/2017: Zouri continues to amaze her foster mom – she is one incredibly smart and super sweet girlie. Since she received her “wheels” a month ago, she has made amazing progress, both physically and mentally. The painful wounds she had when she was rescued from dragging herself on the ground have healed and her beautiful hair is covering them so that they are barely noticeable.
Zouri gets around like an Indy driver with her new set of wheels. She has an amazing disposition and now that she is able to wheel around, she doesn’t even realize she has a disability. Zouri loves to play tug and especially loves to snuggle. She will shadow her human and wants to be in the same room at all times. Due to the loss of feeling in her back legs, Zouri does need help expressing her bladder. This is a simple process, and her adoptive family will have no problem in doing this. A vet can quickly teach her family how to accomplish this. Doggie diapers help keep her clean and tidy, and keep any messes to a minimum. Are you ready for even more unbelievable news? Listen to this ….. Zouri’s foster mom now has her on a potty schedule and has learned to read her body language - toilet training is underway and going very well.
Please don’t turn away from Zouri because she has a few special needs. She is an amazing little girl who will be your velcro baby and will bring you lots and lots of love.
Here’s a few words from Princess Zouri:
Zouri here! Let me tell all of you, I got a shiny brand new bright red set of wheels! Boy-oh-boy! It only took me a day or two to learn how to zoom around in my new ride. I had forgotten how awesome it was to be able to run outside again. I can even out-run my foster fur-brother now – cool, huh?
My foster mom is teaching me how to potty on the toilet like a human. Yup, you read that right! It is a little odd in my opinion, but I prefer that than having a yucky-smelling diaper. I just wag my tail in a special way to let her know I have to go. Aren’t we smart?
I will sleep in my basket next to foster mom’s bed all night long. I agreed to do that so she didn’t need to put me in a crate at night to keep me safe. I hate that crate. Luckily, I only have to stay in there for a little while when she has to leave the house.
Foster mom tells me she will find me a perfect forever home soon and that my new family will love me forever and ever and I’ll never end up on those mean streets again. I hope she is right!
NOTE: Zouri is a very special little girl and will need a very special family. She is a perfect little lapdog, with lots of love and kisses to give. Zouri really enjoys human contact and companionship. Her ideal family would be either a stay-at- home mom or dad or both!
Zouri’s care has been costly. We knew this before we agreed to take her; however, that didn’t stop us. That is not how United Yorkie Rescue works. We could not and would not turn our backs on Zouri. We are asking you not to turn your back on her either. Please, whatever you can donate towards her care, would be so appreciated and received with such gratitude. Zouri has been abandoned once too often, please don’t abandon her again. UYR never will.
UPDATED BIO 08/05/2017: In the eyes of many, Zouri would be considered a special needs doggie. But to United Yorkie Rescue and her foster mom, Zouri is just the biggest sweetheart with the biggest heart and soul - ever. Why, you ask? Little Zouri sustained a spinal injury that is still a mystery and may always be a mystery as to what actually happened to her. This spinal injury left Zouri completely paralyzed in her back legs, and also affected nerves that control her bladder and other bowel function. Zouri was surrendered to United Yorkie Rescue by the person who saved this little girl from the streets. Before being rescued by this kind lady, Sweet Zouri was left on her own and the only way she knew to get around was to drag her paralyzed back legs behind her. As a result, she sustained many bloody wounds on her back legs – so very sad.
Since arriving at her foster home two weeks ago, Zouri has been seen by a general practice vet and a veterinarian neurosurgeon. Through extensive testing, it was discovered that Zouri has no feeling in her back legs as a result of the nerve damage, which also means she feels no pain. This news means she will never be able to walk on her back legs again. Zouri also needs human assistance to empty her bladder and bowels – she is incontinent as a result of her injury. Emptying her bladder is a simple procedure that a vet can teach her new owner(s) how to perform, and this needs to be done at least 3 times daily.
The news from the neurosurgeon was not what UYR and Zouri’s foster mom wanted to hear, but there is hope at the end of Zouri’s story … some GREAT NEWS followed. Zouri received an incredible gift from some wonderful donors. She received a set of wheels! So even though Zouri can’t walk or run on all 4 legs, she can now get around just fine with her doggie cart. She is still learning to use her wheels to navigate around corners and furniture, but she is picking it up very quickly.
Zouri has the best disposition and personality and is full of love and kisses. She sleeps in her foster mom’s room in a basket next to the bed and sleeps soundly all night long. Bath time is not a problem; she actually enjoys the blow dryer and loves to be dressed for bed.
Now a few words from Zouri herself:
Hey! It’s me - Zouri! I have a brand new set of wheels! Today I got to go outside to try them out. It was AWESOME! My foster mom says I will be running around the back yard with my new wheels in no time. I can’t wait! Oh, how I have missed feeling the wind in my hair before my accident. Now for a few things that are a little embarrassing. I sometimes tinkle on myself, but my foster mom helps me and doesn’t make me wear a diaper all the time. When I go #2 in my diaper, I let her know really fast that it needs to come off! She is learning my body language and it is getting easier for both of us. Oh, and I do not like to be in a crate! I will let you know that really fast if you put me in one. I love to be held and cuddled, but that isn’t really embarrassing. Yes, I am a little more needy than other dogs, but I am very appreciative for all the help I get. If you think you would like to become my new family, please let my foster mom know!
I really need to have a stay-at-home mom or dad or both, so that they can tend to my needs during the day. If I could have a fur-brother or sister, that would be wonderful since I would like to have a buddy to play with. I love being held and cuddling with my humans – a lot. Don’t be sorry for me cuz I’m a happy girl, especially now that I have my new cart!

Initial bio 7-23-17 Meet Zouri. Here is her sad story. One day this person was driving home and just before pulling onto her road she happened to see this little pup. She picked her up and began her search for her owner. She knocked on several doors trying to find the owner and when she did they told her that Zouri had been dropped off at their house because the previous owner knew they had a yorkie and they may be able to take care of another one. It seems this little girl, they named Zouri, was hit by a car and now can't use her back legs. She either has severe nerve damage or she may be paralyzed.
In spite of all this Zouri is so super sweet and so loving. She needs to be taken to the vet right away and get checked out. She may be able to be "fixed" or she may need a wheelchair. She has sores all over her back end from dragging herself on the pavement and ground!!!
Zouri will be taken to the vet immediately and we will know so much more about her condition and what her future will hold for her. We are hoping for good news, but no matter what we learn, Zouri will be cared for and loved. We know the right family is out there waiting for and wanting this almost perfect sweet baby. She deserves that and so much more.
Zouri’s care is most likely going to cost a great deal of money. We knew this before we agreed to take her, but that didn’t stop us. That is not how United Yorkie Rescue works. We could not, would not, turn our backs on Zouri. We are asking that you to not turn your back on her either. Please, whatever you can donate towards her care would be so appreciated and received with such gratitude. Zouri has been abandoned once too often, please don’t abandon her again. UYR never will.
