My story

Here's what the humans have to say about me:

IN SEARCH OF A SPECIAL SOMEONE FOR A SPECIAL DOG!

MUGS or MUGSIE (formerly called Snugs) is a Special boy in need of a Special Someone to give him a Special Forever home.
Mugs is 82 lbs of funny, talkative 6 year old adoreableness but this goofy, loveabull boy has some challenges.

Mugs has separation anxiety and he needs his people to be around a good bit. He loves his crate and feels secure there but panics when left alone outside of his crate.
His foster mom leaves Mugs crated when she is gone and he is perfectly happy. But this means that his foster and forever people need to be homebodies so he is not required to spend long hours being crated.

Mugs also has hip dysplasia. It is mild to moderate now and AFLAR has him on all kinds of support supplements to slow down the process but it is a degenerative disease and will need to be managed over his life time. He loves his walks and does lots of zoomies in the yard but foster mom is careful to not over excecise him or he will get sore.

Mugs lives with another dog and is dog tolerant. He does not like to share his bones or toys with other dogs and so his foster mom has everyone play separately. He also gets upset at the neighbor dog at the fence and can transfer that excitement to his foster sister so they have separate yard time too. He would be perfectly happy not living with another dog as his people are the most important things in the world to him. He would be OK with another dog in the home if carefully managed like his foster mom does.

Mugs does not like meeting stranger dogs in the street on leash. Particularly little dogs. Little dogs scare him. Mugs acts like he can’t believe they are real and he just wants to stand there and stare at them. He is really just a big baby! Mugs has had a good bit of training in this area and is doing as well as he can. But his Special Forever person would need to continue his training. He packs up quickly with other big dogs though and enjoys pack walks.

Mugs foster mom changed his name from Snugs because he really isn’t snuggly. He is actually an independent chill little man who likes a few pats and then goes off for a nap or to hang in his yard and watch the birds. He does like his evening couch cuddles though and is blissful when invited up for a cuddle. He is a couch hog though and lies with his big head in foster mom’s lap but takes up the rest of the couch.

Mugs is not wild about the vet or meeting new people. He is good with new friends after a few minutes when he knows you are nice and not going to overwhelm him because he is so cute. Then he will then love you forever…. friends for life!
The vet scares him though. He is muzzle trained for vet visits and has done fine with good vets who handle him with confidence and care.

Mugs is a Special dog. Yes he has challenges but what makes him really special is the love and loyalty he gives his people. He always has something funny to say, yes foster mom understands him, and an opinion about everything. He brings many smiles and giggles wherever he goes and is a wonderful happy companion grateful to share your life.
