Here's what the humans have to say about me:
Meet Ducky,
(On Temporary Medical Hold)
This sweet adult spayed female Golden Retriever x Duck Toller was found tied to a bin at the back of Toronto Animal Services. She had clearly just had a litter and was dumped shortly after. Ducky is a typical Retriever that she is a very happy-go-lucky and loves everyone she meets. She has not been tested with cats or kids at this point.
We believe Ducky to be around 6-8 years old. She is spunky and high energy however because of her "flat feet" she can't do long hikes. Ducky's metacarpals (ankles) are malformed which results in the foot bearing most of the weight. Currently, this issue causes her no pain and is managed with short but consistent exercise, diet and supplementation.
Ducky loves to lay in your lap while watching tv and is excited to meet all new people. Ducky has a second chance at life and would make an excellent family dog.
DUCKY update!
We have had our veterinarian review Ducky's X-rays and we took some additional rays as well as blood work. Thankfully her blood work is great however we have found that Ducky's front feet are Varus (point inward) while her back legs are Valgus (point outward). She also has some hyper extension of the carpals (front feet flat footed).
Ducky was used to breed; likely to make money; when she was no longer needed to feed her pups she was dumped behind Toronto Animal Services tied to a garbage bin. Still lactating.
We believe Ducky to be around 4-5 years old and despite her difficult start to life has an incredible disposition and loves all she meets, dogs, strangers and even children. She has been spayed, vaccinated and otherwise in great health.
After reviewing her X-rays we have decided that surgery is not a good option for her. There is no telling what her mobility would be like after surgery and could indeed cause more issues in the future.
Instead we have opted to have two orthopaedic braces made to help support her joints and delay any more arthritic changes in her joints. Here is an example of the braces Ducky will need: http://www.pawsability.ca/products-orthotics-carpus.php
Janice with Pawsability has kindly offered our rescue a 20% discount for two braces; however this will still put our cost at approximately $2000.00
We will be starting a Go-Fund-Me Campaign to help raise the funds necessary to help Ducky live a more comfortable life.
Ducky still enjoys her daily walks however can't go too long without getting sore. So we need her braces as soon as possible so she can continue to be the active dog she wants to be.
Anyone who would like to donate to Ducky's new legs can do so by email money transfer to revolutionaryrescue@gmail.com using the password "ducky"
Otherwise keep your eyes open for our upcoming Go-Fund-Me Campaign
