Here's what the humans have to say about me:
Riley has become the sweetest guy! He loves to get lots of human affection from his foster mom and dad, and is learning how to give proper kisses without accidentally using his teeth! He loves to play with toys, and especially loves balls with squeakers. Riley is very energetic and enjoys running around outside playing with his foster brothers and sisters. He is doing so much better with strangers, sometimes not even barking at all, and is even affectionate with very gentle children. At bedtime, Riley happily goes into his crate and falls into a deep sleep for up to 10 hours! In fact, Riley often has to be awakened in the morning and coaxed to come out of his house! Riley loves having his doggie friends and would do best in a home with other friendly dogs. Riley’s only problem is a habit of lifting his leg indoors, however, he willingly wears a “belly band” indoors, preventing any accidents, and he knows to do his other business outside. Riley is admittedly not the smartest doggie in the world, but his genuine affection, happiness, and toothy kisses will win you over!********* Here's my original story, the part above was an update on 11/04/08.*********** Hi! My name is Riley and I am a 1-1/2 year old black and tan dapple smooth tweenie dachshund. The lady who rescued me says I was neglected and abused, and the vet says I may have some neurological damage as I tilt my head and walk a little funny sometimes. But that doesn’t stop me from being a total love bug! When I first meet a new human, I am scared, but as long as I’m treated gently, I will cover you with kisses! I get along great with the four other doxies at my foster home, and I LOVE to play with the little 4-month old puppy that jumps on me and drags me around by my collar. I also get along well with the 4 cats in the house - as long as they don’t run from me, I don’t chase them! Sometimes I lift my leg on things I shouldn’t, but I was just neutered, and that should help. I was never potty trained, but my foster mom and dad are patiently taking me outside regularly, and I’m starting to get the hang of it! I stay in an exercise pen when nobody is home and at night, and I’m getting good at using a pee-pad if I really have to go. I am highly energetic, and have difficulty sitting still, but I sit on the couch every night with my foster mom and dad, and doxie bothers and sisters, and I’m learning how to relax and enjoy cuddling. With all my extra energy, I LOVE running around outside in a fenced area, and I’m also doing well on a leash! Since I am very skittish around fast movements, I need a home with children over age 12. I would do best with a patient family that is familiar with dachshund behavior training. I am eager to please, and once you gain my trust, I’ll be your friend for life! My adoption fee is $250.00. Riley's foster home is located in Oxford, PA. For more information about him, please contact his CCDR Representative at catherinevaughan@yahoo.com.
