Like most fairy tales, Hobie's story starts out really sad but then it gets much better & once we find him a loving permanent home, we hope to add: 'They lived happily ever after.'
Like the other heroes in fairy tales, you can tell this dog never really got what he deserved. A neglected dog, 3 yr old Hobie had bad luck until some fairy godmothers stepped in & got him out of the rural dog pound. Now in fostercare, he's so grateful for attention, or love. He's turning into quite a prince.
Hobie is one of those dogs that will just adore you if you are good to him. His ambition is to be a lapdog & we can't seem to quite convince him that he's somewhat oversized for that role. He currently is in a home with three female dogs & two cats. He mostly ignores the cats & will sometimes compete with the other dogs for affection but not aggressively. He displays no aggression whatsoever. When left alone, he will hang out & chill most of the time however if he feels lonely, or left out, rather than just in solitude, he might sing the blues; a sort of a keening tune that sorta like a teen girl getting over her first heartbreak.
we do require an application. We seek to find compatibility both ways; for the dog AND for the people. An adopter should expect to feed him 4 to 5 cups of food a day (if you can get him to eat that) & it really helps to have canned food to wetten the dry. He likes treats & because he doesn't have a weight issue, he is allowed carbs like bagels & pasta, if he wants it & if we have extra. One of his most favorite things is getting his Kong stuffed with peanut butter or Braunschweger. While he does enjoy his appropriate toys, Hobie doesn't chew out of anxiety (hallelujah!)
Hobart has been microchipped as well as vaccinated (against rabies & the std inoculations), & so he's pretty much all set to go. He won't get any taller (which is good because he's a big fella) but we hope he will get beefier so that we can't count the ribs anymore.
His foster family really LOVES as well as LIKES him & think he deserves a family that wants him forever. Sometimes, when he's feeling really happy to be alive, he will roll over on his back & do a happy jig. It's comical & charming.
We will be posting better & more photos of Hobie.
Hobie also likes to run & fetch at times. He's not an escape artist & really could get into being a couch potato who gets a nice, moderate daily walk. His energy level is enthusiastic when you come home but quickly dials down to moderate. He sometimes does the 'Can-Can' when you greet him after being away.
