Here's what the humans have to say about me:
DUKE is a 10-year-old neutered male black lab. Duke weighs 69 pounds and is up to date on shots. This dog is approved for homes with children ages 8 and up.
DESCRIPTION Duke is a good looking dog and is very active for his age. He likes to be with people, to get petted and makes everyone he meets is his friend. From his owner: Duke will play ball and return it to you sometimes. He loves to swim in the ocean, and has done so many times going out quite a distance with the boys. He had free roam of house for up to 8 hours a day. Make sure always that food is out of his way as he will eat whatever is out on the counters. He will sleep just outside of the boys' doors, will also sleep on the sofa, or in the beds with anyone of them.
He is a great dog who is looking forward to meeting his new family who has fenced yard so he can wander around and check for critters who shouldn't be there. Kids 8 and up, lived with 2 boys now 13 who have been with Duke since they were small. He adores them and they play and love on him all over. Good with other dogs lived with a small mixed breed pup, has been out with several at the kennel. Lived with a very dog smart cat, chases others. Knows Sit, Come, Lay down, No, Stay (struggles to stay if people are around as he wants to be near them.) He walks on leash but will pull when he see another dog as he gets really excited. He then will begin talking to the other dog by barking a friendly chatter. House and crate trained doesn't need or like a crate. Duke was an owner turn in to Lab Rescue here is what his evaluator said about him. I visited Duke today he is definitely a lab. He's 10 but you would never know it as he is energetic and extremely friendly. No difficulty going up and down stairs, etc. Tends to be submissive when he first meets you. I think he is a great dog and will make someone a great pet.
D: Delightful House Manners – even in the kitchen!
U: Undeniably Sweet – loves snuggles and belly rubs.
K: Kid Friendly – gentle with little humans.
E: Energetic – loves to play with the resident lab and fetch squeaky toys in the back yard.
Update: Duke's fosters are having so much fun with this loving, playful pup! Initially the squeakers in the squeaky toys were a little scary for him but now he loves to play fetch with his squeaky hot dog toy! Other favorites are chewing sticks in the backyard, snuggling with the kids when they wake up in the morning, and of course belly rubs. Duke is a good boy in the house, does great on his morning walks, and welcomes house guests with a wagging tail. Watch Duke here: https://youtu.be/aoWdDKA7QjE
Update: Duke is such an awesome, loving, sweet, fun dog. Perfect manners in the house, great sleeper, great with kids, and definitely has a playful side. He is very easy to have around and likes to be close by, but not stuck to your leg. Duke does pull a little bit on the leash, and not crazy about car rides, but otherwise will make an AMAZING pet for a family with kids and a big fenced yard. Last week we discovered Duke's passion for pizza and hot dogs. He also loves snuggling, sticks, and belly rubs. Lately we've noticed that another one of Duke's favorite things is warm, snuggly blankets. Whether he's lounging around the house during the day, or sleeping peacefully through the night, you will find Duke snuggled up in a warm blanky in a cozy spot on the floor (or sometimes the couch) close to his humans. Duke is a well behaved, affectionate guy looking for his forever home. Duke recently enjoyed a trip to a nature preserve. He enjoyed exploring the trails and wading into the water to cool off. However, what Duke enjoys most is hanging out at home and be close to his people. He's looking for a home with a fenced yard he can explore, and a family that can be home more often than not. He loves hanging out in the back yard, playing with squeaky toys, and most of all snuggling with his family.
