Here's what the humans have to say about me:
Floyd didn’t know it, but Thursday, October 16, 2008, was the luckiest day of his 8 year old life. That’s the day he was scheduled to be euthanized at a Phoenix Westside Shelter, and AZBHR came to his rescue.
Floyd was very scared when he first arrived in my home, but has gotten along very well with my own two Basset Hounds. It took him a couple of days to get acclimated in our home, and he got less and less vocal each day. He just needed reassurance that he was not being left behind and that I would always return back home. He is a very sweet natured boy, and just wants to be loved and receive a nice belly rub once in a while.
He is currently being treated for a minor ear infection and kennel cough. Both should be gone in the very near future. Floyd is also a little on the heavy side – 75 pounds, but is on a diet and gets quite a daily workout from the two younger Bassets in the house, Barney & Otis. He enjoys trying to keep up with running and playing with them, but the best fun is sun bathing on the back patio with them!
Floyd sometimes has a slightly difficult time getting his hind legs to stand up on the tile, so he drags his rear end for a bit, but once he gets himself up he’s off and running. It was suggested that he receive a daily Glucosamine supplement, for possible arthritis, which he’s been receiving since his arrival in my home.
He absolutely loves Milk Bones and rawhide chews. He received some dental chews during his last veterinary visit, to see if they will help his back teeth. He is in need of a dental cleaning, but does not have any problems chewing his food, treats, or bones.
Floyd is a very sweet, loving dog. He is good with other dogs and kids. He is a little shy when new people come into the house, but then he is fine. Do not know how he is with cats. He is also “doggy door” trained and walks well on a leash. Floyd can get a little protective over his food, but we are working on that.
