My story

Here's what the humans have to say about me:

AVAILABLE FOR ADOPTION through Fur the Love of PAWS Rescue!
Mango, Birdie or Mango & Birdie!

If you have seen our posts, you know that Mango and Birdie have developed a wonderful sibling friendship. It has been just those two for several weeks, so naturally they became buds. Here's the thing: Yes, we have seen all your comments and messages about finding them a home together, and we'd love to do that. We've had duos in the past, actual bonded duos, not just new pals - and it's a difficult adoption. Most people do not want two cats. We don't want to pass up single great homes for either cat, as time passes by, waiting for a duo home.
So here's the plan of action:
Mango and Birdie are available separately OR together. The adoption fee is the same, either way - $100 per cat or $100 for the duo.
We would LOVE, LOVE, LOVE to find these new pals a home together, just like you, but we also don't want to pass on the opportunity for single fabulous homes for either. If they were adopted separately, it would be ok. They are both social and would bond to other cats quickly. We know this isn't ideal for all of you who are cheering for a Mango/Birdie happy ending, but if we duo up every single cat friendship that is going to happen over the next many years at our FURcility, the chances of having an overwhelming number of duos needing homes is what will happen. Cats are usually social creature by nature and enjoy having a friend in their life. Two cats is almost always better than one. Friendships will blossom at the FURcility, time and time again.... it just will. I've spent the past week in turmoil over what to do here, and this is the solution: Put it in God's Hands. So far we have not had a single app on Mango and Birdie hasn't even been posted for adoption yet. So that's what is happening today.......
Without further adieu, meet Mango and Birdie, available for adoption as a single or a dynamic duo, through Fur the Love of PAWS Rescue!
PLEASE READ the entire post. These pets are looking for a FOREVER HOME. If you would consider rehoming a pet due to moving, allergies or family conflict, they asks that you do not adopt them - they'd like their next home to be their last. Stable forever homes only need apply. WE HAVE A NO DECLAW POLICY. Thank you.

MANGO'S JAMES' INFO:
HERE'S THE SCOOP!
When I first met Mango, he was breathtakingly sad. He was at the city shelter, in a tight ball covered in a matted pelt of disgusting fur. I'll be honest, he stunk and looked horrendous. But these are the types of animals that steal our hearts... the broken, the scared, the defeated. Mango was a tough cat to decipher. We try to do our best to figure out if cats at the shelter are feral or just traumatized. If they can be put into homes or if their happiest life would be on a farm home. Mango gave me mixed signals, but I didn't want to label him - something in my heart told me to give him a chance. A lot of rescue is done by Faith... and by what we feel in our hearts. Originally he showed me that touch was completely foreign and that my presence stressed him out, but when I looked into his eyes - I saw something. Something worth trying to love.
Mango started off his new journey by going to the vet. It was there that he was neutered and vetted, and got the official start to his brand new life - a snazzy haircut that made him resemble a tiny, skinny Lion. He was so scared at the vet, they had to get him out with a towel - not because he was mean but because he was a flight risk! He trusted no one, and who could blame him. The world had been cruel to him and his eyes told us that. We were determined to bring happiness where we currently only sad sadness.
Mango arrived at the FURcility on April 6th. The first few days he spent in a cubby, never moving - except to find food and water. He didn't trust us and didn't want to have anything to do with us. During the day, volunteers would read to him outside his Suite and show him kindness from afar. At night, I would go into his Suite and do the same. There was lots of off key singing, bad jokes and baby talk - nothing that is actually taught to help cats scientifically - but something I do anyways. ;) I remember the first 2 nights being extra rough for him but the third night he scrunched a little less far back in his cubby and the expression on his face started to warm up. On the fourth night, April 10th at 9:30pm, Mango had his breakthrough. That was the moment he allowed me to love him, the moment he allowed us to be his friends. The moment a still slightly stinky and skinny, tiny, naked Lion let me into his world, and the moment I fell in love with Mr. Mango James.

After that day, our volunteers were allowed to gain Mango's trust as well. Over time Mango went from defeated and alone to happy, inquisitive, loving, affectionate, goofy and brave. It didn't all change right then and there but over the next couple weeks Mango's personality began to shine. He learned a little about toys, he learned about comfy beds, he learned about being spoiled and learned that humans COULD be kind. He learned he was worthy of being a family member and deserved to be treated like a Prince. <3 The fear is now gone from his eyes and is replaced by sparkling wonder and bliss... I even catch him smiling sometimes. :)

FAMILY GOALS!
Mango reminds me a lot of our previous rescue Ellie Mae. He is going to need a family that is going to give him time to adjust, yet encourage him to grow. He will likely hide at first, until he connects with his new family - so patience is a must. Mango would love a home with another friendly cat! He loves other cats and wants nothing more than to hang out with them. He is good with dogs, but will need a little time to trust them - everything is a little scary at first for him. Mango is good with kids, but we are very serious when we say that no cat should be man handled, tugged on or laid on. Cats should be treated like cats, not toys. Mango is litter trained. He needs someone to make sure his coat stays brushed and in good condition. Fun fact about long haired cats - they actually do NOT shed more, contrary to belief, and their hair is much easier to clean up because it doesn't have a spine like short hair does.
Mango has recently started playing and there is nothing better than watching him have the time of his life! He has a "buddy ball" that he loves and plays with and sleeps with. He likes to chase toys on sticks, he loves to explore and love his water fountain. Mango likes his upright carpet scratcher over the cardboard and he LOVES fluffy comfy beds! He is just the happiest little cat you'll ever meet. A fun fact about Mango - he cannot wear collars.
Over anything and everything, Mango loves love. He is super affectionate once he trusts you, he loves to just lay on your lap. He is so grateful and loving, there's nothing better than letting him take a bath on your lap knowing he feels 100% safe and secure in his new life. Another fun fact about Mango is that he gets overcome with joy and literally trembles. It took me awhile to figure out why he would suddenly start trembling, and it was always after being loved on... the adrenaline just overtakes his little body and he just shivers with glee. If you want a true blue rescue pet who will show you unconditional gratitude for the rest of his life - Mango James is that pet. He's been a true joy to watch blossom here and we can't wait to find him the home of his dreams.

BIRDIE JOY'S INFO:
HERE'S THE SCOOP!
Birdie is a pretty simple little rescue. She was found as a stray and was sitting at the North Platte Animal Shelter. She failed her testing with other cats, at only about 3 months old. Which, isn't a big deal, because at that age they can be worked with - but we didn't want her to get adopted and returned because of it. We knew we could help her socialize and had just the cat at the FURcility to help her - Mr. Mango James! Little Birdie Joy appeared to have worms and ear mites as well, so we scooped her up and pulled her for rescue.

FAMILY GOALS!
Birdie has come a long way in a short time. She has been at the FURcility since May 5th and has since been learning vital social skills for her long term happiness. She wasn't good with cats at first, but in the time we've had her - she has since been doing amazing and found a new best friend in Mango. She spent lots of time with Mango and he was very patient with her. He has taught her how to play, how to relax, how to have fun and how she can be friends with others. Former resident Todd also helped Birdie! He wasn't as patient with Birdie and he taught her how to have boundaries and respect other cats. All of this will need to be remembered upon adoption - but this girl has learned a whole lot and is ready to thrive and grow with a family of her own.
We have also been working on food and toy sharing. She does really, really well now. She can share dry food perfectly, and a firm "No" helps her to remember that canned food is not all hers, lol! She plays excellently with Mango and we are requiring another cat in the home for her, as she loves to play.
Birdie Joy is a typical kitten. She's still learning what is acceptable and what isn't, but she is pretty well behaved all around! She loves toys, is litter box trained and LOVES TO SNUGGLE. She likes to takes baths on your lap and be held. She knows her name. Birdie Joy also loves our cat wheel! It helps her to run off that excess energy. She will need a home that will play with her often and keep her entertained.
Just like with cats, she is ok with dogs. Just needs a little time to adjust. She is good with children and all people - she knows no stranger when it comes to humans. Birdie is likely to be a family member for the next 15 or so years. She is looking for a stable and committed family only.

HEALTH STATS!
4 months old
Spayed Female
Vaccinated but will need a booster
On Flea/Tick/Heartworm Prevention
Tested Negative for FIV/FeLV
Has been Dewormed & is Ear Mite Free
Micro Chipped

MANGO JAMES & BIRDIE JOY INFO:
Together, these two light up the room. They play together almost all the time and do quite well. With Mango being a big older and stronger, sometimes that play can get a little rough. Mango is very good about being pulled away at that time for a little break. He just gets so excited! Birdie is very good about sharing WITH Mango and these two like to snuggle down at night for bathing time and naps.
They would need at least two litter boxes in the home. Rule of thumb is: one box per cat, except when you have three or more cats, then it's one box per cat plus one.
These two, you really just have to meet in person to see. They are the perfect pair if you are looking to add a lot of light, love and tons of laughs to your life! <3
