Here's what the humans have to say about me:
Harley #3 is a 6 year-old neutered male yellow lab. Harley weighs 74 pounds and is up to date on shots. This dog is approved for homes with children ages 10 and up.
HIGH PREY DRIVE -- NO CATS OR SMALL DOGS
A physical fence is required
May 2, 2017: Harley is a big old lug who loves other dogs: residents, guests and strange dogs he meets on walks, with whom he will carry on an extended conversation. In fact Harley likes to talk to anyone who will listen and he has a pretty vast vocabulary. He does have a very strong prey drive, so he does need a fence. Harley does respond to his name when he zones in on a critter, but it helps to stay aware of anything 'chaseworthy' while walking him. He has good manners, although he might accept an unintentional offering left at nose level. He knows "sit" "stay" and "come" and actually obeys when he hears them. He is a pretty good co-pilot, other than the constant narrative. His only real dislike is tile flooring; he has accepted hardwood, but something about the combination of tile and grout gets him questioning their appropriateness as flooring. Harley will benefit from continued training.
From Harley's previous owner: Harley likes to retrieve but doesn't always give the item back. He knows the "drop it" command, but you may have to say it a few times to get him to drop the retrieval toy. Harley likes to swim. He likes to chew up dog toys, so the best toy for him is a Kong toy. (He'll spend hours with a Kong toy stuffed with Milkbones and peanut butter.) Harley knows the sit, stay, paw, down, and drop it commands. He tends to gobble his food, so a slow feeder was used. Harley was also told to "sit" for his food and then told to "go" as a release word. Harley is fine with thunderstorms and vacuum cleaners, but he is kind of afraid of shiny floors like linoleum and hardwood. He was always good with the kids and slept with one of them every night.
The evaluator says Harley is a big, goofy, happy boy with a great energy! He acts young for his age. Harley is treat motivated and eager to please so should be easy to train. Harley had been at the shelter for a few months and adapted well. When the evaluator came to get him out of the kennel, he was well behaved, no jumping or barking, and he walked right out and into his slip lead. The shelter notes that Harley whines to go out to potty and whines to come back in which is a good indicator he was an indoor dog and housetrained. The evaluator said he enjoyed being handled and when she pulled his tail he got really silly. It was a fun game to him! Harley is good with other dogs. He has a strong urge to chase those pesky squirrels so NO CATS or SMALL DOGS for Harley! We have no history of Harley living with children so he is approved for ages 10 and up.
From the transporter: Harley was so happy on his freedom ride that he demonstrated an amazing array of vocalizations! He can croak like a frog and meow like a cat! He is also squirrel crazy as demonstrated by his strong desire to give a squirrel the ‘what for’ when we arrived at the vet. But, when I called his name, he stopped.
Harley is a 6 year old yellow neutered male. He is current on rabies and distemper vaccines. Harley weighs 89 pounds
