Rescued from life on a tie out cable
Great with other dogs of all sizes as well as cats
Playful, intelligent, energetic
Loves hikes
Well behaved in the car and in the house
If your search has been for a young yet already perfect dog, you have found him. He really is a dream. So affectionate, quiet, and sweet natured. We once left him in the house for 12 hours alone and he did not even make the slightest mess. Of course, his average day includes lots of rigorous play and adventure, so he was already a well balanced and happy dog when he had that boring, long day home alone (with access to the yard via doggy door).
Since he grew up on a tie out cable with a family that had kids from ages 3 to 13, it is easy to spook him or make him wince. I do not know whether or not he was abused, but it is safe to say they were a little rough in taking advantage of his docile, submissive nature.
As a result, he does not come easily to new people. He will hang around nearby, tail wagging, Definitely more likely to approach you for a sniff if you ignore him and go about your business.
If he's already on a leash, he will tolerate whatever and let anyone and everyone pet him. It's just that if it's his choice (off leash), he may not come over to you.
So, the only hurdle for new people to overcome is his shyness. Once he knows he is in your pack, you will never have a more loyal and loving family member.
His original owners' toddler daughter named him Marshall after a character from a children's show. We never remember to call him that and he looks like a Border Collie we used to know called Luke, so we ended up calling him that.
