Here's what the humans have to say about me:
Meet Lena! She is a beautiful 11 year old, 12.5 lb yorkshire terrier. She is being fostered in the Villages, FL. Lena's adoption fee is $125 and includes all vetting (neuter, dental cleaning, immunizations, microchip and chip registration). A Vet reference, personal references, and home visit are required for adoption. You may apply to adopt Lena by going to our website at www.unitedyorkierescue.org and completing the adoption application located on our home page.
UPDATED BIO 08/23/2017: Hi everyone – Lena here. Well, here’s what is going on in my world. There was a nice lady that came to visit me and was interested in giving me a forever home. Soooo……when I meet someone who I think is nice, I get all excited and want to go up to them and wag my little tail and give lots of kisses to that person. This nice lady told me that I’m too happy … WAIT! WHAT? Yup! She told my Foster Mom that I shouldn’t do that because some people don’t like doggies that approach them with a wagging tail and lots of kisses. Well, here’s what I have to say about that. I don’t want to be with anyone who doesn’t want a happy, tail-wagging kissy little girl like me. Come on. Lighten up. I like to clown around. Is that so bad?
Sometimes, Foster Mom holds me in her arms like a baby. I lie on my back and just look up at her like a little baby while she tickles my tummy. Then, sometimes we wrestle and play and jump all around. I love those belly rubs and play times.
If you’re a happy, tail-wagging (figuratively speaking) person (with a quiet side too), then maybe we should get together. Just let my Foster Mom know and maybe this could be the beginning of a long-lasting BFF (best friend forever). I would love you forever and ever and give you lots of kisses and tail wags.
UPDATED BIO 07/14/2017: Lena has had an interesting few weeks. Read what this sweet little lady had to say about what’s been going on:
Lena wants you to know: “What a day I’ve had. So, here’s my update. I was all set to go visit a family who wanted to adopt me when, all of a sudden, I started a little cough and Foster Mom wanted me to get checked out so she took me to the dogtor. Well, the dogtor took pictures of my insides and said my heart was a little big. Well, I’m a little big, too, so what’s so bad about that? Then she said there was a little fluid around my heart. No biggie. The dogtor sent me home with some medicine to get rid of that fluid (I can do that in one trip outside), so my heart will be okay. The medicine is Lasix and the cost is only about $25 per month. Trust me. I'm soooo worth it.
But then - the people who were gonna adopt me changed their mind. What What? They are just missing out on my super-dooper dose of ‘awesome-ness’. The dogtor told Foster Mom that she’s not worried that I could still be around for many, many more years (which is what I intend to do).
So here I am again – looking for my forever home. I don’t feel sick and I don’t act sick. I can still run and chase after my housemates and boy do I love to eat, too. Maybe there’s somebody out there who knows what it’s like to be rejected and would be willing to give me a chance. I promise I’ll bring you lots and lots of love (I love hugs) and some laughs, too. Oh, and don’t forget that awesome-ness, too.”
UPDATED IO 05/09/2017: Hi Everyone – Lena here – well, my real name is Apollina, but mostly everyone calls me Lena, or Leeney and sometimes even Beaney and Deaney - I'll answer to any of them. I was still a little confused when I arrived in my foster home, but my Foster Mom explained the situation to me and why I’m having this wonderful adventure. I know that my mom loved me so much that it made both of us sad because she had to be away from me for such long periods. She said that I deserved a family who could be home with me a lot and make me their princess. I guess I'm okay with that. Especially the princess thing.
I really, really love to run and jump – don’t think I can’t do those things because of my age now – that’s just not right! Foster Mom says I'm a very happy little girl. I'm here with three other doggie housemates and we're all having a great time. Annie and I are almost the same size. Mattie is a little smaller than us, and then there's Bubba, who weighs a whopping 5 pounds soaking wet. Oh! And there's this bird in a cage that keeps calling the other girls by name (Annie...Mattie). What a hoot! I hope he learns my name so that I can hear him call me before I leave to go to my forever home.
My Foster Dad takes Annie and me for nice walks and he says we're very well-behaved together. I’m not saying anything just yet, cuz you know I just got here, but I will whisper this to you…I think Mattie is a problem child. There - I said it!
I'm a good eater and a good sleeper and I don't cause any problems. I’m house-trained and leash-trained, too. Foster Mom explained that I won't be staying here forever, so I'm really anxious to see my new home and my new family. I promise I'll be good and give you lots and lots of love. My perfect family would be one that maybe had at least one stay-at-home person that would give me lots of attention. Not that I need it, but it sure is nice when I get it. I'll check back with everyone in a few days. See ya’!
