Koda (short for the Lakota word Takoda, meaning friend to all) is a very sweet boy. He loves people. He was a stray on the Pine Ridge Indian Reservation when he was found and brought to our local animal shelter. He has never bit a person according to the shelter paperwork and has always been friendly to people. He gets along well with my 11-year-old yellow laborador, but if a dog is aggressive towards him, he gets aggressive right back. We think he had to fight for his life on the reservation and he responds poorly to aggression from other dogs. He has done pretty well with our 4- and 6-year old kids. He shows affection by mouth-hugging and jumping up, both behaviors we are working on. We have enrolled him in obedience classes and are working with him. He is a fast learner. He knows how to sit and is learning down. The reason we can't keep him is it has become clear that he will never be able to live peacefully with our cat. He should not be in a home with cats. Blue heeler mix.
