My story

Here's what the humans have to say about me:

Clifford – UMDR ID#017-0413
Fostered by Daria R.

Clifford’s Rescue was Sponsored by Susanne Shearing

Clifford is a young boy with a sweet disposition, who loves everyone including other animals and children and would make an ideal family pet. He is still young and does not have any formal training so needs someone who is patient and willing to work on his training and further socialization to ensure he becomes a confident and capable adult. Clifford currently weighs approximately 23 lbs and we don’t believe he will get any taller but he will continue to fill out a bit. He is approximately 10 months – a year old.

Here is what Clifford’s foster family had to say:

He is pure joy. While he can be skittish with sudden movement or loud noise he quickly shakes it off and bounces back enjoying life. His tail never stops wagging and he loves new people, new dogs and has no aggressive bones in his body. He is a total love bug and will be great in a home with someone who doesn’t mind getting hugs and having tons of cuddle parties. HE ACTUALLY GIVES HUGS. He definitely has the energy level/attention needs of a puppy. He is quiet in the home. He rarely barks in general.

Clifford is social and friendly with everyone he meets. He likes to walk up to everyone and loves kids. He does like to jump up and say hi so a small child may be an issue. However he has no mean bone in his body. He likes cats and dogs both inside and outside. The foster cats scare him a bit but he shows no prey drive. He was curious about the free range rabbits and so far I trust him (with supervision) around any animal. He loves to go for walks. Loves toys. And is always up for play with other dogs.

He has no food aggression. When food is left out he will let the other dogs bully him away from the bowl BUT he will steal treats when everyone is getting one LOL. I suspect if left alone he would try to jump on table to get a goodie left behind. Good eater. He may be doing his final teething would need to have lots of chew toys around so he doesn’t chew things he shouldn’t.

He doesn’t appear to know any formal commands. He does respond to requests – please come here…jump on the bed etc. He tries to be really good. He is eager to please and would be a good candidate for obedience classes. He is fully house trained but we ensure he gets lots of opportunities to be outside and to go on walks. We have not been using a crate as someone is home during the day but as he is still a puppy he would need to be crated if you were away from the home for any length of time. He walks well on a leash. He does pull but is quite manageable and very responsive if you need him to go somewhere. Like with most hounds though, his family will need to let him check stuff out. He doesn’t bolt out the door but that’s because he is terrified of stairs. He is a Beagle and would probably try to escape from the yard but is not given that chance. He is scared to get in and out of the car but he settles within a few minutes.

This little guy is just an adorable body full of energy. He also loves to snuggle. He just wants to be near his people and to be a “good” dog. He is very sensitive so when you get mad at him for something it REALLY gets to him. So a patient loving home that just lets him be him would be wonderful. He really just wants to play, love and be loved.

Clifford just wants to please and be a good dog. So a home that may be impatient with an over zealous dog or one that jumps up to be close is not the family for him. If someone yells a lot and just wants the “darn dog to settle” is not the family for him. He does settle and snuggle in with his people, but when he is bouncing around he is just excited. So he needs a family that loves his excitement and wants to be excited with him. He is a wonderfully behaved dog, he just wants to live life to the fullest and appreciate each and every day!

If you think this sweet boy would be a good addition to your family, please go to the main website at uglymuttsdogrescue.com and submit an application for consideration.
