Here's what the humans have to say about me:
Jake & Jackson came to us from a family who raised them from pups. Unfortunately, their grandson who lives close and is in their home frequently is severely allergic to them. They are well-mannered and happy boys who clearly have been loved and well cared for.
Jake and Jackson turned 8 years old on January 3. They are litter mates and can't stand to be away from each other. Jackson had shoulder surgery when he was 9 months old. As you know, big dogs grow so quickly that sometimes their tendons can't keep up in these growth spurts so an orthopedist corrected the problem. About 3 years ago, Jackson developed ear problems that could not be corrected with antibiotics so he had surgery to clear up the deep infection and clean out his ear canal. He has never had a problem again with his ears. Jackson is the alpha dog and is competitive. He will try to get you to a thrown ball first and won't quit retrieving until you give up. He'll keep bringing you the ball and dropping it in front of you until you throw it again. Jackson is so devoted to Jake that when playing ball he will bring two balls, one to throw for him and the other for his brother, Jake. He also likes to have something in his mouth most of the time. You'll see him with a ball, toy or even a sock if it is available. Jackson will bite his feet if he gets bored.
Jake is a bit larger than Jackson and is quite laid back. He always tries to get to the ball before Jackson, but never quite gets there in time. He rarely gives up though. He is a big baby -- very tender hearted and loveable. He would give up food just to be petted. He'll come and put his head on your lap until you pet him. Jake has periodic seizures but he does not require medication. When he has a seizure, he will find a closed-in space and wait it out. They only last 1-2 minutes. He shakes and his legs become stiff. We hold him down so that he doesn't hurt himself while he is shaking. There are no side effects and they have not gotten worse over time. Two vets have told us that this is not unusual with Goldens and these seizures are not life threatening. Jake loves the water as well. It is not unusual to find him in the pool even when it is 30 degrees. He has a dense coat and I don't think he's ever been cold.
Both boys are house trained and never have accidents. They are extremely good with children and I trust them totally. My 19-month old grandson climbs all over them, pokes and "pets" them and they have never shown any sign of being frustrated with him. They are not "barkers" unless someone comes to the door. They both are very good retrievers and love to play fetch. They are good with all other dogs and think all dogs just want to play with them. They would probably not be good with a very aggressive dog in the family.
It is essential that the boys be adopted by the same family. They wouldn't know what to do without each other. The best match for these boys would be a family with children that want to include the boys in their activities. Jake and Jackson need to be a member of the family. They are indoor and outdoor dogs and cannot live exclusively in one or the other. They would not be good for a family that puts them outside (or even inside) and never thinks about them other than to feed them. They are very social and must have interaction with the family. They are accustomed to being able to come and go in the house and wouldn't be happy otherwise.
Jake & Jackson have been regular campers at the Golden Retriever Camp (www.GoldenRetrieverCamp.com), a wonderful boarding facility for Goldens near Huffman. Dave & Betsy, the owners of the Golden Retriever Camp, adore them and when they learned they needed a new home, without hesitation, they have provided them with a foster home until they find a home together. Dave & Betsy say Jake and Jackson are Golden gentlemen and get along with all dogs and all other animals at camp. We have never seen them ill or poorly mannered. While they are quieter than many of their campers, they are very playful. They are big balls of love. If you enjoy dogs who make you smile and love to just be quietly near you, and if you love to put your arms around smiling big lugs of fur, Jake and Jackson will adore you. They have a great sense of humor and a peaceful and charming attitude about life. They have great facial expressions and smile a lot. And when they smile at you, you melt.
These two sweet and gentle-spirited boys have a very special bond and will give a double portion of love and devotion to the lucky family who adopts them.
Jake and Jackson are both current on vaccinations, neutered and heartworm negative. They are also microchipped. Jake weighs in at 102 lbs., while Jackson weighs in at 90 lbs.
