Here's what the humans have to say about me:
SAMMY (KENTUCKY)
Sammy is an 8 year-old, 14 pound Yorkie mix being fostered in Covington, KY near Cincinnati OH. Sammy has a few words to share with you.
"Hi, my name is Sammy. I'm a rescue doggie being fostered in Northern Kentucky. My foster Mommy wanted me to write a letter, telling all potential adopters out there about myself, so here it is...
I came from a really bad situation. While I was loved very much at one time in my previous home, I was neglected for years because my first mom had a disease called Alzheimer's. Because of that, I survived on my own for a long time. That was a really hard time for me. I didn't eat very much, and what I did eat was mostly stuff I could find. I didn't get to go to the vet, or have my monthly flea and worm preventative, so I contracted a lot of bugs that like to live inside dogs. When I came to live with my new temporary family, I was very, very sick. My foster mom says I'm all better now, which I think is great! I feel pretty awesome. But she says there are some things you should know about me before you meet me, just so you understand the full story.
I'm not your typical dog. Some people say I'm funny looking, which I really don't understand. Because I was sick for so long, I lost a lot of hair and my skin was rough and bumpy. My skin might be scarred forever in some places where I scratched too much, but those bugs in my old house just made me itch so bad, I couldn't help myself. I'm really happy that most of my hair is growing back, and hopefully all of it will, but I know there's a chance it won't. I think the new hairs look pretty stylin' though! My bones in my body spent a long time being weak because I didn't eat enough and didn't get a lot of exercise in my first home, so my legs look a little bow-legged. But I walk fine and even run, and my foster mom says I'm getting stronger every day. I love going to the park and chasing my foster brother around the house for exercise now. My eyes are a little glossy, but I still see fine and I guess that's the most important thing. And some people have said I have a snaggle-tooth--what's that? I thought that was just my smile! My foster mom thinks I'm really cute, and I make her laugh a lot with my goofy grin, which makes me really happy.
Anyway, that's enough about my outside--it's my inside that really matters, right? The fact is, I've been through a lot, but all I really want to do in this world is love another human. I just love my human friends, even though I've been through a lot of hard times with them in the past. I saved up all my love during those years that I wasn't able to show it, and now am making up for lost time. I like to show you love by following you and staying by your side, putting my paw on your leg, and sleeping next to you all night long. All I want to do is make you happy, so I never do anything that I know would make you sad--like barking a lot or having accidents, pulling on my leash, or being aggressive. I see my foster brother do those things sometimes and think, "no way, not me!" I know humans like a dog to be well behaved, so that's what I do. All I ask in payment for this, are some good belly rubs and back scratches--that's all.
So anyway guys, that's me. The good, the bad, and the ugly. My foster mom tells me that a very special person who wants a very special dog is going to adopt me someday, and I really hope that's true. If you think you might want to adopt me, fill out an application. I've got a pretty good feeling you will never regret it." Any questions please email foster mom at keepcalmandyorkieon@gmail.com
