Here's what the humans have to say about me:
Visual breed identification in dogs is unreliable so for most of the dogs we are only guessing at predominant breed or breed mix. We get to know each dog as an individual and will do our best to describe each of our pets based on personality, not breed label.
Moose is a 60+ pounds 1 1-1/2 years old Pi Bull/lab mix, he is a fairly laid back happy dog, not a needy dog, he is a very curious dog, he gets along with well-behaved dogs and with people but, unpredictably, sometimes he jumps up and clamps down on an arm or hand and he will not let go, he will release if commanded to stop-sit, he is never broken skin but has caused severe bruising. Moose loves to play, chase balls, but most of anything he likes to play with water, get a hose out, turn the water on and let the fun begin, he will chase the water stream forever. Moose is also very toy motivated except that he will not give the toys he gets a hold off. Moose walks well on leash, though sometimes when curious he pulls; knows how to sit, stay and working on his basic commands, he is clicker savvy. Moose has never had an “accident” in his kennel and is crate trained.
Moose is too smart to be permitted to misbehave, Moose, requires a firm, yet loving training and guidance. To be Moose’s foster or adopter you must be one step tougher and smarter than him. Don’t think that tough means harsh or abusive. Moose is very sensitive and will not deal well with rough treatment. Abusive treatment with Moose will result in a dog with a broken spirit and or worse, an aggressive temperament, we are sure he will answer physical punishment with aggression.
Because obedience training is a must for Moose. We will send Moose to obedience school for a 4 to 6 week “In-kennel” training but, we would like for Moose to have a committed foster or adopter before sending him to training, and that the foster or adopter attends the last week of training with Moose. If we send Moose to training now and he has to come back to the kennel he will lose the training and be at square one once again,
the boarding kennel is not the right place for a dog like Moose. Like with any learned behavior, training must be kept up. Moose will be trained using positive reinforcement methods only. Moose will be obedience trained until he is 100% reliable on his commands on and off-leash.
We are looking for an experienced Foster home for Moose or better someone to adopt him. Moose is a wonderful doggie when outside the kennel, we often take him to Petsmart and Petco, he has always been very friendly to people including children, and a gentleman with other doggies there. We feel once Moose is in a stable quiet and secure home environment with parents that love him and give him the love, guidance and attention he so hardly seeks and craves, he will settle down, flourish and become the wonderful dog he can be, give him a chance.
Moose gets along well with most dogs, when the chemistry is there he is wonderful, but he pesters others, not that he is aggressive but he can be rude with some dogs, he will chase squirrels and cats are out of the question. That said, he does not like aggressively barking dogs. Being young, Moose is full of energy and being a high energy furry person who needs a lot of exercise he will do well with someone who likes to play, hike, run and then go home and snuggle.
Moose is up to date on all his vaccinations, he is heartworm negative in excellent health and microchipped.
If you like to foster Moose or adopt him and provide a Forever Home for him, call Miguel at 817-798-8416
