Here's what the humans have to say about me:
Meet Milton! Milton is approximately ten years old and he was rescued from a high kill shelter. Milton weighs about 12lbs. He was found as a stray and was very sick with some kind of infection. He is all well now and he is neutered and has had his teeth cleaned along with one tooth extracted. In the past, he has lost other teeth on his own. Milton has had a full senior blood panel and shows that he is actually in good health for his age! Milton’s teeth are worn down and it appears that he had spent a lot of his life chewing on wire or metal (we surmise he was probably used as a breeding dog and lived his life in a crate and chewed on the bars trying to get out). His teeth will need monitoring and he has one tooth which has a tiny hole exposed, but the root is solid and if a vet tried to remove it, they would probably break his jaw as he is so small. Some vets would recommend a “root canal” but at his age, his tooth will likely outlive him. Regardless, it should be monitored in the event it ever causes him pain or the root becomes compromised. Milton is up to date on all vaccinations including rabies and is neutered and microchipped. All medical records are provided upon adoption.
Now for his personality…which is hysterical. Milton is an older guy and is tiny, but he has NO clue that he is tiny and old. He runs with the big dogs and is FEARLESS! He is not aggressive, but he likes to be a part of the world around him and be with other dogs and people. He is very social. However, he is not a lap dog. He loves to be near his person and follow his person around the house. He likes his person to be within his sight and he will cry briefly when his person leaves, but he will settle down and relax after a few minutes. He is kind of independent and not very “clingy.” He is about 80% housetrained now and since he has been neutered, it only gets better (no more marking!). He loves to go outside and toddle around, sniff the grass and look at things. He is good at using a doggie door. He is not a barker, but he makes a little whine when he wants to be near you and he cannot get near you (if he gets stuck in a room with a shut door, for example.) He is not destructive and sleeps through the night on his own doggie bed on the floor. We do not recommend him sleeping on a bed because he is fearless and may jump off and hurt himself. We also do not recommend him sleeping in a crate because he does not like to be crated and he will whine and be very upset (probably due to his past and he may further hurt his teeth by trying to chew his way out).
Milton is quite the little character and we find his little personality to be very amusing! Because of his small size and age, we do not recommend a home with small children. Cats and other gentle dogs would be fine. Milton’s adoption fee is $150. Please email stmartinsanimalrescue@hotmail.com for an adoption application and more information about the adoption process.
