My name is Rocco!

Update 12/22/08: Rocco is a sweet dog and loves his people. If he could, he would play all day long. He likes to be groomed and told he is the handsomest of them all. He has his moments getting along with the other dogs in the house (usually when he is tired), but for the most part, he wants to have all the attention to himself and will be overly aggressive when not getting all of your love and attention. Because of this, I believe Rocco would do best as the only pet in the home. He is now about 7 pounds and high energy. He needs a fenced yard and someone who is home most of the time. Rocco loves walking, running and pulling but we are working on getting him to walk nice on a leash. He slows down after a mile or so:-). He is big into play biting and we are working with him on giving more kisses and less mouthing.

His favorite games are playing fetch, being chased, and chasing squirrels and birds out of the yard. He also likes to hide under the covers and play. He rides well in the car but goes berserk if we turn on the windshield wipers. He is a fair weather boy. Rocco does not care for cats and cannot go to a home with children under 12 years old. UYR is asking for an adoption donation of $250 for this little jester.

Update 12/09/08: Well, I survived my first Halloween and being dressed like a jailbird while the doorbell kept dinging. It was a bark-fest! Then, I enjoyed my first Thanksgiving and even got to eat some turkey. Life is good. Now, the family brought a tree into the house and hung a bunch of breakable things that look like toys on it and lights! I think I am going to like this holiday best. You should see my foster mom chase me when I grab the round shiny things off of the tree when she isn't looking. Wheeee. I am SO funny! Foster mom isn't as funny though and squirts me with water when I'm obviously winning the game. She says I need to learn more constructive ways of receiving positive attention. I love attention though. I can't wait to have my own grown ups all to myself to teach me things and love me. My birthday is in January and I will be 1 year old. Foster mom says she could swear I'm a two year ol d though. I wonder what that means.


I am playing mostly nice with the other yorkies in the home and I like to curl up and sleep with my head on their backs. Sometimes if they are closest to the window and I want to look out, I just sit on them. I can't decide if they work better as toys or pillows for me.


Another dog would have to like to play chase the way I do and tolerate my energetic play. I would like a securely fenced yard and someone who likes to take me on long walks and give me exercise. I also love attention being cuddled, getting massages and groomed while being told I'm a handsome and loved.
Update 10/29/08: Rocco has been with us one month and is still acclimating to his foster home and all his foster yorkie siblings. He loves the doggie door and being able to go in and out to chase squirrels with the others. He is very loving with us and craves attention. His world at 9 months is all about play, play, play. While he is learning how to play more gently with the other yorkies in the house, he still gets carried away and I have to give him "time outs" when he gets too rambunctious.


He loves fetching and playing with his foster parents and loves his little squeaking tennis balls. He knows how to sit nicely for treats and is learning to sit and stay when I need him to focus but his attention span is very puppy-short!


While Rocco enjoys sleeping beside and interacting with other dogs, his tendency to hunt them down and pounce on them like a cheetah from Animal Planet, makes me think he might do better in a quieter home without a lot of other dogs. He means well but is just a rough player.


Rocco is handsome, healthy, and has a great sense of humor - or so he thinks! He would love a home where he gets a lot of attention and positive training. His new family should be familiar with the yorkie breed and their tendencies and needs. Because he play nips and uses his mouth a lot when playing, he cannot go to a home with young children. A securely fenced yard would be a big plus in his world as he is an escape artist and loves to run. UYR is asking for an adoption donation of $250 for Rocco.


Initial Bio 9/23/2008: Hi everybody! My name is Rocco and I'm just 8 months old. I went to the dogter yesterday and I am a really healthy boy and a whopping 6 pounds. Foster mom calls me a string bean. I have one puppy canine tooth that hasn't fell out yet so the dogter is going to take it out and then I'll be ready to be adopted. My family dumped me at the humane society because they said I was not nice to the little kids in the house. I was just wanting to play though and they were rough with me. My foster mom says my family obviously didn't understand my yorkiness or puppiness! They were keeping me in the garage and I was really sad because I had no one to play with and learn things from. A nice lady at the shelter called UYR, thank goodness, and my foster mom came and saved me. I was getting a little uncomfortable being caged next to those bigger dogs. Now, I'm living it up and so happy to be in a warm home. I have foster br other and sister yorkies and I am learning to play nice with them. I just love all the toys here and attention. I even sleep in bed with my foster parents and am so happy. My foster mom promised she'd find me the best forever home ever. It will not have any kids poking at me and no big dogs. My new home will understand the yorkie breed and will know how to be positive with me and teach me things. They will lavish me with love and will have a nice fenced yard so I can play and chase stuff. Doesn't that sound great? I just keep dreaming about it.
