Here's what the humans have to say about me:
UPDATE: Allie has adoption pending!
Say hello to Allie! Allie is a beautiful brindle Dutch shepherd girl, about three years old, who has never really known what it feels like to be part of a family. There were some personality differences in Allie’s first home that led to the decision to relinquish her. Due to Allie’s breed & drive, it was thought that maybe she would be a great scent detection working dog. Unfortunately, Allie was placed with a handler who did not know what she was doing, in a company with no proper controls or oversight, & in the end, more damage was done to this poor girl than good. Her ball drive & desire to play were corrected out of her, she was not fed proper nutrition, & the situation as a whole exacerbated her anxiety issues instead of helping to quell them. She lost a significant amount of weight, leaving her ribs & hips grossly exposed. Allie no longer had any desire to work so after she was restored to health, she was placed with a young man who promised to just let her be a companion & keep her healthy. Unfortunately, apparently that didn’t work out either because after just a couple months poor Allie was relinquished to a pound, once again grossly underweight, instead of being returned to the ladies who had safety-netted her. That’s where we came in! We got Allie out of the shelter & into a boarding / training facility where she could be evaluated & restored to health again. Allie now has the desire to do nothing but just hang out & be a dog, so that is exactly what we’re going to let her do! Allie is somewhat dog selective & wants to be a little dominant at times, especially with dogs like-size or larger, but we've found it's all about the other dog's energy; she does just fine with calm energy dogs. She has a very strong prey drive so she cannot be in a home with cats or small dogs. However, her current best friend is a 25-30 lb terrier mix so medium dogs that are submissive &/or calm would probably be best. She would be great as an only dog. Healthy weight for Allie should be around 60 lbs; we’re not quite there yet but she was at 54 lbs when weighed last. More than anything, Allie just wants to be loved! She is super affectionate & will bond very strongly to her person. She appears to prefer men to women, but loves everybody. She does have some anxiety issues still that we’ve been managing with over-the-counter stress tabs. Someone with knowledge of or prior experience with Dutch shepherds or similar breeds (Belgian malinois or German shepherds) would be a plus. Allie will need lots of love, patience, & exercise. Maybe someday this incredibly sweet girl would even want to play ball again! Are you the right human to show Allie what it’s like to be a part of a family? To be loved with expectation of nothing but affection & loyalty in return? To let Allie just be a dog & learn how awesome being a dog can be?! If so, apply to adopt her into your home today! You will not find a more loyal, loving companion than sweet Allie! Allie is fully vetted & her adoption fee is $150. Adoption contract, reference & vet checks, & home visit required.
