My story

Here's what the humans have to say about me:

HALEY is a 1 year old spayed black female Lab who weighs 50 pounds. Haley is a smallish girl who adores human affection. She’s a little bit shy at first, especially with other dogs, but over the course of 2-3 days has started to open up. Though she’s still adjusting to noisy things like electric toothbrushes, she now confidently approaches the other dogs in the house and will share her bed with them if need be. She is housetrained and will let you know when she needs to go out. She doesn’t seem to understand commands but lies down whenever you ask her to do anything. She’s crate-trained and will go in the crate to doze if that’s where her bed is. She’s good on a leash and comes quickly when called. She really perks up when she sees kids, so she may have lived with some in the past. Since we don't have any history, she's approved for kids 10 and up. Haley met my pushy cat when she spent a few hours at my house, and she didn't want to make eye contact with her. The cat went right up to her, and Haley walked away, so I'm going to say she appears to be good with cats based on that one encounter. Haley was a stray to the shelter. She is approved for kids 10+. Adopters must meet these requirements:
Setting: Rural, Suburban
Dwelling: Single Family Home
Fencing: Needs Physical Fence
Must go with another dog

Update: Haley is doing great in her foster home and has completely settled in. She gets along great with the resident dogs and absolutely loves her humans. She will snuggle with anyone who will let her be on their lap or on the couch next to them. She loves her treats and has put on some weight. She is house trained and crate trained. This little girl is charming

Update: Haley is doing well in her foster home. She has a good appetite and sleeps through the night. She loves people! She follows her humans from room to room. She is also doing well with the two resident Labs.

This dog is from a rural area and has not been exposed to traffic, noise, or groups of people. If dogs are overwhelmed by their environment, they can exhibit behaviors like excessive barking. To avoid this, for now we are limiting placement to stand alone single family homes in a suburban neighborhood or rural area. As we learn more from the dog's time spent in foster, we will evaluate if placement can be expanded to include a more urban environment and send out an update.

This dog is available for adoption from Lab Rescue LRCP. Lab Rescue LRCP rescues and places dogs in Maryland, Virginia, Washington DC, West Virginia, Pennsylvania, Delaware and northeast North Carolina (30 miles east of I-95 and north of the Pamlico Sound) Adopters must travel to Maryland, Virginia or Washington DC with their family - human and canine - to meet the dog they want to adopt.

Lab Rescue LRCP has between 50 - 80 dogs available for adoption from foster homes across Maryland and Virginia and at monthly adoption events. The adoption event dates are listed at www.lab-rescue.org.

If you are interested in adopting, please visit www.lab-rescue.org and complete an adoption application. Within a few days of submitting an application you will hear from an Adoption Coordinator who will guide you through the adoption process.

An adoption fee is charged to cover the cost of veterinary care and a home visit is required.
