Here's what the humans have to say about me:
We adopted Chip from Suffolk Animal Control after moving into a place with a big yard as a companion for our previous dog. Because of some persistent unwanted habits and expecting our first child soon, we feel it would be best to find him a new home with the right family. While his history before we adopted him is largely unknown, it is suspected he was abandoned as a "failed" hunting dog and he lived as a stray for a time.
Chip (AKA: Potato Chip) is a Hound dog, suspected (and most likely) English Foxhound breed. He stands a little under two feet high at the withers, and weighs no more than 45 pounds. He is thin but muscular with a healthy, short haired coat. Personality wise, he is a sweet, laid-back dog that loves a couch or bed to lay on. He gets excited when it's time for food and playing outside, and can jump pretty high, though he has never tried to jump the fence. He loves food and is very food motivated, but also might try to search for or steal unattended food items. He is also crate/kennel trained, and is used to being fed in and sleeping in his kennel.
Due to persistent habits of jumping up and pawing, he would likely be best for a household with older children, or just adults who will be able to handle and possibly work with this behavior. While not much seems to bother him, he is skittish of loud/sudden noises (such as pots and pans clattering, or loud slamming sounds), and appears to be afraid of long handled tools such as brooms when they are picked up. When we first adopted him he was pretty skittish of strangers, but he seems to have really warmed up and while he may alert bark when he sees people, he is friendly and has never shown any signs of aggression toward people or other dogs.
He is good with other dogs, and has handled our energetic golden retriever very well and even plays with her. We also easily trained him to not chase our cats, and doesn't appear too interested in them when he's around them. He doesn't seem terribly interested in toys, but likes chews such as chewing bones and antlers. He knows sit, lie down, and wait (stay), and likes just about any treat, but particularly loves Greenies and also likes to munch on ice cubes. He is happy to be outdoors, but doesn't do well in the cold due to his thin fur, so we have tried a sweater and coat for him in cold weather. Overall, when indoors, he likes to be able to have a place to lay and sit in a room with people, making him much more of a couch potato than an energetic playmate.
To help him transition into his new home we plan to supply his kennel, kennel pad, collar, leash, walking harness, food bowl, pertinent documents such as rabies certificate, a sample of his current food, some treats, his sweater and coat for the winter, his sheet to lay over his crate for bedtime, and any chews we think he might like to have.
