BLACKIE is a 3 year old neutered black male Lab who weighs 79 pounds but should weigh about 65. Blackie & Brownie are a bonded pair they have been together since they were puppies and must be adopted together. Blackie & Brownie are great dogs, they are friendly and very lovable. They like to be with you to get petted, if they had their way they would be Laplabs but are too big. Blackie seems to be the leader and the first to explore, Brownie follows along to make sure she doesn't get into trouble or if she does to help. Both like to retrieve. They are enjoying living inside but still like to go out and explore the yard and play They would like a to have a family that is active and can give them love, attention, training and exercise so they will thrive. Good with other dogs. Knows sit and come, working on other commands. Pulls some on lead better with an Easy Walk Harness. Crate trained were house trained as puppies and are keeping their room clean at the kennel. Brownie and Blackie's story from the shelter manger - They were surrendered to the shelter because their owner could no longer care for them because of age and health. They were inside dogs as puppies, since then they have been outside dogs. They were brought inside in bad weather. He said the girls are most happy when they get to spend time together in the yard and they wine when they are separated. They are very sweet and like affectionate. Blackie had an Bilateral Entropion operation when she was spayed. Entropion is an abnormality of the eyelids in which the eyelid "rolls" inward. This inward rolling often causes the hair on the surface of the eyelid to rub against the cornea (outer part of the eyeball) can result in pain or cornea scratches. You can see her BLUE stitch ends in the pictures, they are not false eye lash extensions. He is approved for kids 10+. More info soon!
This dog is from a rural area and has not been exposed to traffic, noise, or groups of people. If dogs are overwhelmed by their environment, they can exhibit behaviors like excessive barking. To avoid this, for now we are limiting placement to stand alone single family homes in a suburban neighborhood or rural area. As we learn more from the dog's time spent in foster, we will evaluate if placement can be expanded to include a more urban environment and send out an update.
