You may remember seeing this sweetheart on our Facebook in the past. A few months ago a local animal control put out a plea for little Kelsey. She had been diagnosed with cancer and her future was bleak. The shelter staff loved her very much and wanted nothing more than to see her settled into a home for whatever time she had left (they envisioned it to be only months). When we saw her story, we knew we had to help. Luckily for Thank Dog, we have the most selfless fosters who have done a “fospice” situation before. They immediately were on board and so Kelsey was welcomed as a TDR girl for her remaining time.
Except Miss Kelsey had other ideas. After seeing how spunky and full of life she was, our fosters said they’d love to get another opinion from an oncologist. Thanks to the generosity of our great friends at Running For Rescues (if you haven’t followed them on Facebook yet, please do! You’ll continuously be inspired!), we were able to take Kelsey to a specialist who believed her condition was treatable. After an intense surgery and some recovery time, Kelsey is doing AMAZINGLY well! Her months have turned into what we hope to be years as she has left cancer in the past. We are so excited to say that there’s no reason for Kelsey to live out her days as a Thank Dog fospice dog. She’s ready to find a FOREVER home to cherish her and love her for the rest of her life.
Kelsey is a sweet and happy dog who currently lives with other pups. She has a blast playing with her foster brother, and TDR alum, Baxter. She loves people and is a happy soul. Like most seniors, she’s just got the extra something special about her that makes you feel good. We can’t wait to see where her next chapter takes her.
