My story

Here's what the humans have to say about me:

Watson came to us from the shelter in Hammond, Louisiana. Watson spent most of his life chained to a tree in a front yard, but is now on his way to a better life. Watson is about as laid back and easygoing as a guy can get and is very affectionate and loving to boot. Watson was seen by our goods vets at VCA and after a very thorough exam and bloodwork, they determined that he does not have any type of mange or thyroid problem, his itchiness and poor skin and coat are caused by poor nutrition and allergies. Hopefully, a few weeks of good quality food will set him straight and get him on his way to a beautiful, thick and glossy coat. Watson is currently undergoing heartworm treatment. What a sweetie!!

Watson is approximately 6-7 years old. He is current on vaccinations, neutered and microchipped.

Foster Update 8/25/08:

Wats had his shot and is doing fine. He's staying the night and gets the other shot tomorrow.  The Vet said there's another GBGRR golden right next to him, not sure who, who's there for HW too. (It's Watson's first slumber party.)I'll pick him up tomorrow after work. He has some yuckies in his ears so I'll be doing the ear drops and flushing stuff again on him. Other than that, he looks good. Thanks for the prayers - they're working.

Foster Update 8/18/08:

Watson's second heartworm treatment shot is scheduled for Monday, 8/25. Please keep him in your prayers. He has been doing so wonderfully lately -- I hope he goes through this round well. I'll keep everyone posted.

Foster Update 7/15/08:

Watson went to the vet yesterday, but didn't get his heartworm shot. The doc said he wasn't very cooperative about staying on his back for his x-ray, so they had to sedate him. (If only the x-ray room had a couch in it, there wouldn't have been any problem!) So because he was sedated, she didn't want to give him his shot. Good news is, his bloodwork shows NO babies in the bloodstream - yea!! So he went back in this morning and got his first shot. When I picked him up he seemed his normal self, but now I see some changes... At this very moment he is lying on the floor next to the kitchen. While lying there isn't different, NOT being on the couch definitely is. He also has no interest in what I'm cooking for dinner - very unusual. And has no interest in HIS dinner, which is of course where I hid his meds. ::sigh:: A few more prayers, please.

Update 10:17 pm:

Just wanted to let everyone know that Watson's food bowl is empty. Since he's the only one on four legs around here I'm guessing he ate on the sneak. Trying to make us worry and feel bad about it all, meanwhile, he's sneaking the grub when we're not looking. :) He's in bed with Scott. I'm heading there myself. Hopefully they saved me a spot. Thanks again to everyone.

Foster Update 7/10/08:

Say a prayer for Mr. Watson this week. He starts his heartworm treatment on Monday and I'm a little worried about him. In the meantime, I'm sure he'll continue perfecting his R&R as shown in this picture, LOL. This is what he does immediately when you lay down on the couch. He truly believes he belongs there. :)

Foster Update 6/13/08:

Well, Mr. Watson is wrapping up week two of R&R, and is lookin' and feelin' good. The healthy diet seemed to do the trick for his itchiness. He's making himself at home on the couch, where he likes to nap for a good portion of the day. He is a perfect angel - he has the run of the house and is always on his best behavior. When we are sitting outside, he wants to stay outside with us, lying down on the grass nearby, or taking the occasional dip in the kiddy pool. He is a typical velcro Golden, and wants to be close to his foster family. One of his favorite things to do is curl up with our daughter and watch TV. He's a real cuddle-bug. The second anyone sits on the couch he climbs right up and cuddles. I know I probably shouldn't encourage "bad" habits not knowing what his adoptive family house rules will be; but I figure for every day he spent tied to that tree, he earned a day on the couch! He is such a good boy and he doesn't feel so great (and yeah, I'm a sucker) so I let him. :) Watson has mastered "sit" and "shake" and knows the doggy bones are in the pantry; so any time he hears the pantry door open he walks into the kitchen to obediently sit in front of the door like a good boy who deserves a cookie! He is good with other dogs, and doesn't have much interest in the neighbor cat. Watson is feeling so much better, and occasionally gets a burst of energy, has a bit of a bounce in his step, acting kind of puppy-like. It doesn't last long, but it's so good to see him happy. He will be a wonderful companion to someone looking for a less active dog who has so much love to give, and gives it so freely.
