This beautiful boy was bought at auction from a puppy mill breeder because he had heartworms. Turns out that was his lucky break. He did not have a very serious infestation, was successfully treated, and now is healthy and ready for a new life as a pampered pet. No more living in a small cage outside in all weather, dirty and smelly, and unloved. He is just 4.5 yrs old, and has a bright future ahead of him.
He is still pretty shy and does not really believe his good fortune. During his treatment for heartworms he had to be kept confined and very calm, so he is still suspicious we are going to lock him up again. He is learning to be comfortable running loose with other dogs and playing with toys, but still prefers to hang out in his crate (door has been removed) when he is resting.
Sawyer needs lots of TLC and patience, but when he finally makes the transition, he is going to be a great best friend. I have seen hints of his true personality, and he is awesome I think he will make much better progress when he gets a family of his own and doesn't have to worry about what everybody else is doing.
