My story

Here's what the humans have to say about me:

Sammie is a 7 year old purebred Maltese who is just adorable. He first arrived at our rescue when his elderly owner was no longer able to care for him. Our rescue's mission is to assist terminally ill people with finding homes for their pets.

Sammie is very protective of his person - his owner, and he needs an adopter who understands that he needs behavioral training starting from day one in the home to extinguish this problem. Tyson's Place is willing to pay for a training session with our trainer, Bob, from Paradigm Dog School to help Sammie start out on the right foot. In his original home, he was so protective of his owner that he snapped at her home health workers - in his mind, he thought they were trying to hurt her. He was adopted last summer, and, because he didn't receive training, he started this same protectiveness with his new female owner, and they made the decision to return him to us a year later. Needless to say, Sammie is confused, and we are determined to start him out right this time by providing training to his new owners. Because of his protective nature, he would do best without young children in the home or visiting. He is a smart guy with the potential to be a wonderful dog.

He has lots of great traits too - he is good with dogs and cats. He walks great on a leash and is used to being groomed and bathed. He is housebroken and crate trained. Like many aging dogs, he needs bathroom breaks after several hours in a crate. He is a tiny guy that enjoys attention.
