My story

Here's what the humans have to say about me:

TERA is a 2 year old spayed black female Lab who weighs 51 pounds. TERA is a young and beautiful female lab. When she arrived to Lab Rescue, she hadn't had much obedience work, so she went to the trainer to learn some basics. She improves all the time and is becoming a confident girl who likes to play with other dogs and run around in the yard. She would love to have another playful canine companion. Tera will need to continue with her obedience training. She loves to retrieve tennis balls, and for her, that is a better reward than food. She didn't seem to care about the cats she met at the vet's office, but we don't have any history of her ever living with cats. Tera will do best in a home with women only as she can sometimes be afraid of certain men. Not recommended for a first-time adopter. Because she still jumps some when she's excited to meet people she will be approved for kids 12+ only.

Update: Tera has had a lot of new experiences with her foster mom. She went for a walk yesterday in town to work on her leash manners (she weaves and sniffs and investigates everything, but doesn't pull too hard with an Easy Walk harness) and to meet new people. She encountered multiple strangers of both genders, and greeted everyone excitedly, but appropriately with a wagging tail, and an attempt to sit with a super wiggly butt. Anyone who hung out a few minutes got kisses. Tera did bark at a few runners that dashed past. Based on these positive experiences, she may be ok living in a home with both men and women. Her adopter will need to be aware that she still may be afraid of some men. It's possible that she has had enough positive experiences now that she's more trusting, but she was afraid of them at one point. We are hopeful that the continued positive experiences will solidify her trust and that she'll be able to be adopted to a family comprised of both genders. She is a very sweet, but high energy girl. Though she barked at the runners, her foster mom thinks it may have been because she wanted to join them. With continued leash training, she could be a great running partner.

Update:: Tera had a big, fun weekend with the beautiful weather. She fetched tennis balls, and frisbees, and squeaky toys, and squeaky balls! It doesn't matter what you throw - this kid LOVES to fetch. Even when she's tired, if you pick up the toy to throw it "one more time" she'll catch her second wind and take off after it. She shares nicely, and was fetching with the resident labs. Foster mom is working on showing Tera that men aren't all that bad, and she met the male neighbor and his male friend easily yesterday, and was giving them kisses within minutes. She's a happy girl, and is hopefully learning through these positive experiences that the male gender isn't to be feared. After a good fetch session, Tera will come in the house and play catch with herself - tossing a toy into the air and catching it, and then settle in for a nap on the dog bed. She wasn't crazy about her crate at first, but she's gotten much better even in a few short days. She'll follow a treat in there and though she will bark for a few minutes when she first goes in, then she is quiet as a mouse. This girl is a true diamond in the ruff!

Update: Tera has quickly settled in to her foster home. This sweet girl loves to play fetch, and is so smart! She will bring the ball back, give or drop it when asked, and then sit and let you throw it again. A good long game of fetch wears her out and then she's ready to chill. She slept soundly in the crate last night after just a bit of protesting. She's house trained and so sweet. She will need humans to continue her training, but she's gotten s great base and is eager to learn.
