My story

Here's what the humans have to say about me:

Snowy is a young female long haired Chihuahua mix with a wiry white coat, we guess she was born sometime in 2014. She was turned over to another shelter by her owner; the owner provided her name and nothing else. We think Snowy was mistreated; we know she was neglected; weighing just nine pounds, hip and rib bones in plain view under her balding almost hairless skin, open sores and scabs from severe flea dermatitis. We were at the shelter to pick up a couple of other dogs when they showed us little Snowy. There was no way we could leave this pathetic frightened pup behind. Snowy is very ill, her recovery is being hamper by extreme malnourishment which makes it difficult for her immune system to fight off disease. She is such a loving little dog, shy and wary, expecting unwarranted abuse to rain down on her at any moment. She needs to learn to trust, to understand she is safe and loved. It is remarkable how forgiving dogs can be; dog's love us unconditionally and never give up hope that we will return their love. At first when we held her she would be stiff and cautious but she is learning to relax and enjoy the warmth and love. Snowy has already discovered the toy box and selected a squeak toy that she bounces and tosses and carries everywhere, a step in the right direction. Snowy will be on antibiotics until early November, when she will be tested again to assure we have destroyed all the nasty stuff attacking her immune system. With healthy supplements, nourishing high protein food, and lots of treats (she likes that one best!!) we plan to have Snowy in good physical shape and ready for her forever home in time for Christmas and all the love and care that she should have had from the start will finally be hers. Snowy is spayed, has a microchip, is current on all vaccines, heartworm and flea/tick preventative, and has had a complete physical and dental. The adoption fee for Snowy is $350.
