My story

Here's what the humans have to say about me:

Ernie's story is a difficult one to write so please bare with me. Ernie first arrived at WDR as a young puppy after being picked up while running down a busy road. After no one claimed him it was time to find him a new home of his own. Ernie was a energetic hound, full of spunk and love for people and other dogs. When a family came looking specifically for a hound dog we were beyond excited for him, not everyone can handle a hound dog. So, after being with us for a very long time this then 2 year old hound was off to his forever home...so we thought. After two years of being in a home of his own, Ernie found himself back at the kennels of WDR. Returns are hard, for any reason, but this one was not like the others. Ernie's return needed to be immediate according to his family, so here he is. Ernie's family did not have nice things to say about him, which is hard to sit and listen to. He would jump the decorative fence they used to contain him and run away, he barked and howled, he did this and did that wrong. Ernie was being a hound dog and apparently they were not equipped to deal with it. Now, we have an overweight Coon Hound here in need of a family that gets him, one that knows the breed and their needs. We do have Ernie on a diet to help shed the more than 30 extra pounds his frame is carrying. He still loves people and other dogs. He has a curious nose and a desire to be active. He needs a home willing to start from scratch with him and bring out the loveable and wonderful dog he is meant to be! We know there is the perfect family out there, with the heart and knowledge to give this guy the home he has always deserved!
