My story

Here's what the humans have to say about me:

All potential adopter’s will need to be approved to adopt from MWBCR and should visit our website at www.mwbcr.org for more information on the approval process.

Lily is a special girl who needs a special home. She came to us from a less than desirable situation but has proved that a little TLC can go a long way. When we first met Lily she was unsure of what was about happen but took everything in stride.

Lily is the momma of Huck, Clay, Aspen and Reed. Her coat is in terrible condition (we are still removing matted areas) and it is dry and very brittle. She has received a few specially medicated baths along with some extra grooming, some in part to being flea infested as well. Unfortunately, we had to remove lots of hair on her tail and tushy area because of feces and more matting. The poor girl must have been living and laying in her own waste as her tail had severe urine scalding on the underside. With the special baths and keeping the area clean it has now healed and quickly hair is growing back!

Our first trip to the vets office proved that she was not feeling well. She arrived anemic and very lethargic. The parasites inside her were most likely the cause along with all the other bodily and mental changes of being weaned from her babies, drying up and starting a new life. All the bloodwork results and urinalysis came back within normal range for the most part but we are keeping an eye on her. This week she will be spayed and new bloodwork will be ran to see if there are any concerns.

Lily has been dewormed, heartworm negative and is UTD on shots. While she has been dewormed and is now negative for tapeworms, roundworms and coccidia, she is still positive for hookworms and whipworms. She has completed her first 3 day round of meds and will have another 3 day treatment in 3 weeks.

Lily has displayed a favoring to walking on our left side as well as hesitating at steps. She also seems not to notice how to go around an open door if she is 'caught' on the other side. After a couple weeks of watching and observing we had her rechecked. Her right eye has what they call retinal atrophy. Currently she does see out of that eye but there is severe depth perception. She will be seeing a specialist for this and more details to follow.

So.....that's all the negative....lets get to the good stuff!

Lily is the sweetest thing you will ever meet! She can be shy upon greeting but once comfortable there is a different and a bit of a sassy side to her (sassy as in spunky!). She needs someone who will take it slow and has a gentle hand. Once she gains your trust she becomes your little shadow. She has fit right in with my other 2 dogs since the time she arrived. My 16 month old BC and her love to romp and wrestle inside and outside! They play quite the game of chase. She is quiet but will occasionally let out a little rumble at walkers on the street to let you know she is there.

For the most part she is housebroken. Occasionally she will pick up something that she is not supposed to have (shoes, toys on the floor, etc) but a leave it usually does the trick. Lily has started to give signals when she wants to go outside. She walks well on leash and enjoys visits to the bus stop where she gets extra loves from the neighborhood kids.

Lily is crate trained and will go in on her own when asked and occasionally we will find her napping in there. She knows sit, lay down and come. She is working on shake/paw for treats.

I would prefer a fenced in yard and another dog for Lily to help her with her confidence but these are not "deal" breakers. She has not been cat tested.

*There is a lot of interest in Lily. In the event that she is adopted before you are approved, please consider the other amazing adult dogs that are looking for their forever homes!*
