Here's what the humans have to say about me:
SHEEBA is an approximately 6 or 7 year young black female with natural ears. This happy girl has no idea that she is supposed to be an adult and has plenty of bounce for every ounce. Sheeba came to her current home after spending her early years left in a basement or porch without much contact or any training. Bathing meant being tied to a car bumper and hosed down even though it was 20 degrees outside. When Sheeba came to her current home she quickly blended with the other male Dane and Boston Terrier. The day after she arrived was Thanksgiving Day, with a houseful of company, and Sheeba charmed everyone, even the non-dog person. No one can resist the sparkle in her eyes or that silly grin. Sheeba has been in her current home for almost 3 years and has learned sit, stay, paw, down, go to bed, and "out of the kitchen." We are currently working on dependable recall. She did develop some major anxiety issues when a delivery man teased her, and has been working on not guarding the front door. She tends to get a little anxious when left alone for long periods or confined, so another dog is a big help on that score. Sheeba will guard doors and gates, but once you've given her the okay, she's all play again. Her favorite activity besides more play time is to lay outside on the patio getting a suntan! Cats are a quandary for Sheeba. Sheeba doesn't quite have awareness of her size. For some reason, kitties don't react to well to her puppy bow and those huge paws coming at them. Of course they run, which Sheeba thinks is more play. I would use extreme caution with cats. She is fine with dogs of all size. In fact, her best buddy is the 15-lb Boston Terrier. Sheeba has a favorite blankie and it is actually quite amusing to see her curl up with her blankie in her mouth, all curled up around her. Life circumstances are forcing her current guardians to give Sheeba up through no fault of her own. Sheeba is a loving, playful, delightful companion and it breaks their heart to have to say goodbye when they thought they were giving her a forever home. So just what does Sheeba need? A home with another playful dog to burn off her energy, hopefully someone home at least part of the day who understands and sets firm limits. Kids are okay as long as they are older than 12-13 and are dog savvy (Sheeba can easily knock a little one down in her joy to greet them), and lots of LOVE, HUGS and TREATS. Sheeba came to MAGDRL in August 2008.
Update 10/10/09 - Sheeba has been with MAGDRL for a long time now. She has been in her foster home for almost 10 months. She is a true gem and a pleasure to have around. She recently turned 8 years young, and that, for Sheeba, is only a number. She is a very healthy and active girl that loves, loves, loves her walks. When she sees foster mom with the leash she jumps around like a silly youngster. When Sheeba came to us, she had a case of happy tail. After many attempts to get it to heal, it had to be amputated... but she still has enough tail that she wags all the time. Sheeba is very trustworthy when left in the house. She does NOT like to be crated. She will panic and bend it. So no crate for her. She has never had a potty accident in the house. If she needs to go out, she will pace in front of you and stare you in the face. She also does the same thing when it is feeding time. I love how dogs communicate. If by chance she chose not to go at bedtime (happened just a couple of times), around 3am while sleeping, I could feel the eyes and breath of a dog right in front of me saying "ok, now I have to go". Sheeba is a food hound. She knows the out of the kitchen command, but turn your back for a split second and she will counter surf. She is good with men and women, and is quick to come right up to you to say hi. In her foster home, Sheeba has been good with male and female dogs. While out walking she has a couple of times been protective of her foster mom. She sees one certain dog and acts out as they approach. As time has gone on, she has improved her reaction to this dog, but every once in a while she still needs correction/distraction as they pass. Sheeba is a big leaner, so you need to brace yourself for her leans. She knows commands like sit, stay, down, quiet, give me a kiss, shake, out of the kitchen, and time for bed. Oh ya, also car rides. She is not into toys, but still loves and cuddles with her blankie. Sheeba is a wonderful girl with plenty more years to provide love and companionship with.
