Adoption fee on this dog is $300.
Davos is a tall, affectionate, mild-mannered one year old who was picked up with an older female German Shepherd in the Turlock area after reports of dogs that had bit a cat. The owners reclaimed the female, but Davos was left at the shelter. He came to us underweight and can still afford to gain a few pounds. He walks well on leash with proper handling, is housebroken, has done well sleeping in his crate, and has pretty good mouth manners, especially for a young dog.
He is quick to jump in when the car door opens and enjoys rides. He has been gaining a sense of adventure and interacted appropriately with people and dogs who he has met on the trails and around town. He has fun on the beach, and at parks he can hold his own with some of the rambunctious dogs. Davos' energy level and confidence have really improved as he now needs 3-6 miles on the trails every day with his pack. He has not cared to play fetch, but he likes running with dogs who do.
There is an endearing, slightly clumsy and goofy way about him. Despite his increasing drive, he lets you enjoy your breakfast before getting your day going. Around the house, he easily rolls onto his back for belly rubs. When he's receiving attention, he occasionally digs his head in your lap, then tries to squirm his way onto the furniture with you. Davos is a social boy who pays more attention to female dogs than toys, although he has torn apart a loose sock or two.
Davos would do best in an active home with a calm, friendly, well-behaved female dog. In both of his foster homes, he has enjoyed the resident female dogs and even liked playfully wrestling with them. He generally gets along with males, including mischievous ones, but the girls clearly have his eye and attention. He has not shown much prey drive, so it is possible he may be able to live with smaller dogs, cats, and other critters. The ideal home for him will be active and continue socializing and including him on hiking/camping trips, to the lake, and wherever dogs are welcomed around town.
Davos is being fostered in the Lake Tahoe area.
