Here's what the humans have to say about me:
Sophie, is a 6 years old female Chiwinnie looking for a Foster or a forever home. She was brought by her former owner to an animal hospital, she had just had 8 puppies 10 days earlier and it took that long for the owner to think that something may be wrong with her even though she stopped eating the day after giving birth and stopped drinking water 4 days after. Sophie had very high fever, she was emaciated and her puppies were in poor condition. The veterinarian that examined her believed that Sophie’s life could not be saved, though she could try with no guaranties. The owner inquired about the cost and decided that it would be better to euthanize her. The owner was not prepared or willing to try to save the puppies either.
I was called by the hospital staff, told of the situation and asked if I knew of any bottle feeders that could try to save the puppies, I asked the veterinarian to have the owner sign a surrender form for both the puppies and the mother dog, the owner signed the forms. I asked the veterinarian to try to save the mother and see if she would survive until next morning, I got on the phone and within minutes with the help of various contacts found the resources to take care of the puppies. Sadly, only 4 made it.
Sophie had a massive uterine infection, she was placed on IV fluids overnight, underwent surgery the next morning and against all odds survived the surgery and now she is fully recovered.
Sophie is a wonderful girl, she is kind, loving, the quiet type little doggie that enjoys the company of people and is great with other dogs small and large. Sophie is in excellent health, heartworm negative, spayed and current in all her vaccinations. Come meet her and she will steal your heart like she stole ours.
If you would like to foster her or maybe give her a Forever Home call or text Miguel at 817-798-8416.
