My story

Here's what the humans have to say about me:

"Imara" is the Swahili word for "inner strength" and there is a reason why we call her that. She was found unconscious on the side of the road after being hit by a car. Despite head injuries and nasty scrapes and bruises, Imara has made a full recovery and is ready to begin the next chapter in her life. Imara doesn't seem to understand the concept of playing with toys, but she does enjoy a vigorous rub down and will chase things that you throw (she just doesn't bring them back!). She is housetrained, leash trained and rides well in the car. She may have been neglected or abused, and quick movements of the hands and feet seem to scare her. Given that, it's probably best that she goes with a family that does not have small children. Imara currently lives with a few cats. Sometimes she gets a little too rambunctious for their taste, but in general they get along fine. She also seems to be okay around other dogs, but she doesn't have a lot of experience in that department. Imara is estimated to be about 10 years old and weighs 12 pounds. She can't jump very high due to some knee problems, which keeps her off couches and beds. She is almost totally deaf, so loud noises and other dogs barking don't bother her. There is a Swahili saying, "There is no distance that has no end." Imara has traveled a great distance since we found her. The toughest part of her journey is behind her and she is looking to start a new one in a loving home.

IS THIS DOG AVAILABLE? If the bio above doesn't say that there's an adoption pending, then YES! he or she IS available. As soon as we approve an application, we'll post it, so you will NOT get more current info by emailing us to ask if the dog is available. To "get in line" to adopt or get more details, you MUST CLICK HERE to submit an Adoption Application.

QUESTIONS ABOUT THIS DOG?
The email address on this page is for website-related issues ONLY. For answers to specific questions about a particular dog, you MUST submit an Adoption Application! That is the only way to access the fosterparent for this particular dog, who is the only person who can answer specifics about this dog's personality or geographic location. (Our dogs are located in private fosterhomes around the state, and we do not provide those addresses on the Internet or to casual inquiries, and you cannot just "drop by" to see a dog without prearranging it with the fosterhome.) Because we are an all-volunteer organization and receive a very high volume of inquiries, we can only respond personally to people who have demonstrated a serious interest in adoption by filling out our application.
