Here's what the humans have to say about me:
Animal's name: Oscar Age (years): 3 Weight (pounds): 10 Spayed/Neutered: Yes Coat: Wirehair Color: Red Adoption fee: 200 Oscar is a 3-year-old, 10-pound wire-haired doxie who just loves to love. He loves people, cats, other dogs, and especially getting his tummy rubbed! Oscar knows the words sit, here, potty, and responds to a clear and crisp whistle with a swift run back. He can walk with a leash and does not pull. He is cautious about new things, I think only because he wants to know he will be safe. Oscar is not afraid to bark, when outside, but he would rather put his nose to the ground and explore new surroundings. Keeping an even kind tone is one of Oscar's favorite behaviors from humanoids, as sharp tones and scolding evokes feelings of great sadness and submission. Oscar is wary of doors and feet. As far as sleeping is concerned, he sleeps through the night without a whimper, again, prefers to be close, but knows he has to work on being in a crate and knowing it's okay. He's not a fan of the car, I think only because he hasn't had the opportunity to know where it can take him. His last year was spent sleeping in a shed out of doors, so he is new to being inside all the time, but clearly prefers to be with everyone close by. Oh, by-the-way, fire-truck and police sirens evoke a howl that sounds so forlorn! Nest building is a favorite of Oscar's he prefers things he can move about, pillows, rugs, towels, it's gotta be just right however, he does use his teeth to pull everything just right, so don't be surprised if you find holes or rips in whatever you give him. If you have your hand close by and it's just idle, he will wiggle his nose under your elbow or hand to make sure you know he's there for a little bit more time of you know what...that's right..tummy time! Oscar loves to sit in your lap for stay by your side for some one-on-one. Oscar sure is a skinny fella, I think he has a small tummy and is not aggressive when it comes to the bowl, but he sure likes to know he can go in the kitchen for a snack at a moment's notice. Everything seems to agree with Oscar's tummy and he does not seem to be picky at all. Keep in mind that squeaky toys, balls, stuffed animals aren't really his thing, but a good game of chase with another 4-legger is just his cup of tea or a nice walk is just swell. Oscar is loyal, curious, loving, kind, adventurous, consistent and would love to be your best-side buddy. I havn't seen a mean bone in his body yet, and don't expect to...Oscar is just a love, through and through. If you are interested in Oscar, go to drnc.org for more pix or to fill out an application to meet him. You must submit an application to be considered to adopt Oscar
