Update 1/23/09:
Nino has had his appliance taken off and is doing well and will remain here while convalescing to be monitored to make sure he heals well from having the pins removed from his jaw bone. We want to thank Joel Woolfson our orthopedic surgeon (just the best surgeon, we love him) who took over Nino’s care and gave him back his smile.
Update 12/30/08:
Nino has been several times to see Dr Benson at Vetcision who has been continuing Niño’s care while Dr Powers is away in Iraq. We love Dr Benson, what a great, gentle and kind vet he is!!
Nino is doing great and will get his appliance off in three weeks probably, as long as the new x-rays look good. Nino cannot wait, I think he sees juicy big bones in his dreams just waiting for that day. Nino has been such a trouper during this time, he never complains and his tail shakes with delight at any attention. He is such a good boy. Please continue to donate to Nino’s care we have a big bill to pay, but we also have to acknowledge and thank everyone who so graciously donated at a time when our economy is not great and extra money is scarce, we could not have done this for him without all your help, we are so grateful. Thank you.
Please tell your employers about us and what we do here at Toy Poodle Rescue, many times they will match donations made by their employees.
Nino update 10/19/08:
Nino suffered a set back over the weekend and his jaw broke due to extreme bone loss from never having received dental care during his life.
When Nino came to us we did a lot of dental work on him and he had several procedures done to save what teeth we could and to close a hole from his palate to his sinus. Unfortunately his bone loss is severe and his jaw broke due to lack of structural support.
It was never a question whether we would repair this and give up on him. If you could see him run around the garden and roll in the grass you would not give up on him either. Nino has lived all his life in a breeding kennel doing his job servicing females and we believe at 11 years old he is just starting his life of freedom and can run and roll in the grass as much as his little heart desires, so we had a surgeon repair his broken jaw immediately. They repaired it by placing pins along his jaw line and then externally attaching them to a piece of very attractive green hard acrylic to keep the jaw in place. We still think he looks so handsome and he is eating little homemade meatballs like a champ since he came home. BUT……. Our bill so far is $2600 and we will need follow up appointments.
If you have it in your heart to help Nino please donate what ever you can, we are grateful for anything. We can only help to save these older Poodles with your help.
We Thank you.
