My story

Here's what the humans have to say about me:

Nala is a senior (10+ years) female Samoyed /chow? mix that weighs approx 60 lbs.

This girl was rescued from certain euthanasia from a kill shelter in California. She was in very rough shaped when pulled. She took weeks to even start to cheer up in her foster home, and there were times we weren't sure she would be strong enough to survive a trip to Canada.

Well, she made it, and after $1000+ in vetting and lots of love and attention, Nala is really coming into her own.

Nala has been great around respectful children, respectful dogs, and cats. Nala is a very sweet old soul who loves head scratches. She doesn't really know toys, but likes to play chompy chasey games when outside. She likes to go for walks, and LOVES LOVES LOVES car rides.

Nala needed a lot of vet care. She had several rotten teeth. When we put her out for oral surgery, we discovered she had an AV block - so, her heart wasn't pumping blood regularly. For now, this means she can be a little slow getting up, she might look stiff, but she's just waiting to get the blood to her legs. Sometimes she will slip or stumble, and that all has to do with the blood flow and AV block. Right now it is of little to no concern. However, at worst case, should Nala stay free of any other illness, the AV block would likely progress, and at its worst start causing seizures. Now, there is no timeline or estimate for if for when this could happen, but we are mentioning it so adopters are aware. Should it progress to that point, options are a pacemaker (very costly, and we don't know her actual age) or helping her cross the rainbow bridge. For now, she is in quite good shape, and can walk for up to an hour on little incline.

Nala also has weak sphincter muscles in her behind, and she is sometimes unaware she drops a poop nugget. Usually these are firm and not a big deal to clean up, but adopters need to be willing to deal with incontinence issues as she ages - we are NOT interested in someone who would want to euthanize for this issue. Unfortunately while there are several ways to try treat urinary incontinence, there are not any options for her issue, other than lots of fibre in the diet.

Nalas hips are in good shape for her age and while hips and eyes are a breed specific concern, she seems to be in good shape.

Nalas adoption fee is $350, and you can view more pictures of her here:
