Here's what the humans have to say about me:
STORM is a 3 year old neutered male fox red Lab who weighs 54 pounds. His new foster mom here. He arrived this afternoon and is settling in in his own way. He's very shy and is currently enjoying the aroma of roast beef from underneath the piano. When in doubt, this little man likes to hide. Storm is in need of a patient family who will accept him for who he is...give him a nice and easy routine that he can ground his growth in and they must have at least one other dog as a pack environment will really suit him. Storm is scared when he meets new people and situations but if you go slow with him he is fine. He changes when he is with another dog and is more outgoing and will come up to get treats.
Storm must go home with another dog. He comes from the country and has no exposure to big cities. Placements is limited to single family stand-alone homes in a suburban neighborhood, or rural area.
Storm is approved for kids ages 10+.
Update: Storms transformation is continuing. Last weekend he attended an adoption event and while very quiet and subdued, he did great with all the attention he was getting. At home he's also continuing to get more comfortable with life with a family and we've had lots of company for him to practice with. One night when I had friends for dinner he sat regally on the sofa and got petted. A friend came to stay for a few days and within a day it was like she was me and he totally accepted her.
He's a sweet little lovebug. Loves to play tug, especially with one of the resident dogs who's just started to get the idea. He loves cuddling with humans and loves long walks. That's a lot of love! It could be yours.
UPdate: A couple of changes to this guy's data. First, we're choosing to mark him as 'no cats' because he will chase and second, we're removing the need for a fenced yard because he does really well with leash walks 2-3 times a day and an on leash outing in the mid-day. We've been doing more on leash and less free play in the backyard for about a week and he's loving the indoor life and gets worn out more on leash than he does just running around the yard.
Update: Gosh we love this little stinker and he's answering to that name! The stinker named Storm has become a complete charmer. Everyone who meets him just loves him. He's fallen completely in love with taking walks and has learned to stand at the door waiting for me to clip his lead on. We take a nice long walk in the morning and then a couple of short walks in the afternoon / evening. He's great with every dog we meet on walks and with every person we meet. I think he prefers that to running around and chasing away critters in the backyard because he now prefers life inside the house.
He has great house manners inside the house and hasn't master the stairs yet but is getting closer. I've gotten him half way up my short flight of stairs. Once he does it once, he'll do it again no problem.
He is the biggest cuddlebug that I've had in a long time and loves to give kisses to his humans. Storm's only real need now is to find a family that will give him the chance to settle in without being pushed too much. Oh, and a doggie companion please. He's going to reward you with the greatest gift a Lab can give. LOVE!!!!
Little stinker! Just needed a bit more time than usual and now is that perfect 3 year old Lab.
Update: This little stinker! Yesterday's info is still very good, thorough and relevant to his first six days. Today, he decided that it was time to put all the silliness behind him. So, we now move from room to room though no stairs yet...but he wants to. Today, he's walking on leash...just a martingale and a leash. He's good on leash - pulls towards cars and it's clear that he's never seen a small bus but we've gone right up to people and he just ignores them while he stands beside them or walks around them. I take him out with the resident lab and apart from running circles around us, he's great on leash. Still a great cuddler and I get lots and lots of kisses.
Update: Storm has had quite the busy week. People and doggie playdates have been our theme for the week. He's doing very well and is putting that shyness behind him; all our guests have been very good about just leaving him be until he comes to them but yesterday, he let a strange man pet him and was hardly shy at all. Just 10 minutes of patience and turning on the 'fun gene' in this young dog's makeup did the trick.
Update: Mr. Wrinklehead has made himself at home here. He found his own way on to the sofa though the resident Labs have clearly been teaching him while I've been away. He's had his first full day at home and did just great. I think he caught up on his beauty sleep. He did great when a neighbor who he hadn't met before came in to do a midday bathroom break.
