It's early October, and cold; unseasonably colder than it should be. But warmth is found, and felt - from a 10-pound package of Indian Summer. Her name is Nokomis, a Native American word that means “Elder woman”, but she's not ‘elder’. Nokomis is very smart, and gaining more wisdom everyday. Nokomis is a commercial breeding momma, and she is 6 years old. She is very tiny for a momma dog. Her coat is a beautiful golden wheat color with red highlights, her eyes are dark and longing. She longs for attention and her tail swishes freely when I look at her. She wants to follow me everywhere. She likes to be touched. She sleeps quietly in her crate or exercise pen. Generally, this ‘lil miss’ is sweet as pumpkin pie. Okay, she is not edible, but holding Nokomis is like ‘dessert’ for you and the dog – very enjoyable!
