My story

Here's what the humans have to say about me:

You can fill out an adoption application online on our official website.

Meet Dirk!  Born around August 2013, this big, affectionate boy loves his humans!

Dirk is such a sweet soul!  While he has only one back leg, he does not want any pity.  What he really wants is to be lavishly loved and brushed!

He prefers a calm, quiet home.  If there are children in the home, they need to old enough to understand that they cannot knock him off-balance, as he could fall and hurt his hip.

He can be an only dog if his humans are home most of the time.  If he lives with other dogs, he likes females that are confident, laid-back, and non-confrontational.  He cannot live with any male dogs.

He really likes staying home.  When he’s not inside with you, he loves spending hours outside guarding the yard.

He absolutely detests going for walks.  He finds it stressful, and he will lash out at any other dog he sees.  So, if you’re not fond of walking your dog, he’s your guy!

Handsome Dirk is house trained, crate trained, leash trained, and rides nicely in a car.  He is pretty responsive (for a Pyr!) to basic commands such as come, sit, down, crate, go.

He has high prey drive and cannot be in a home with cats or other small pets.

Dirk is not one for a novice dog owner.  He will do best with someone who is experienced with dogs and who has some knowledge of dog behavior and their body language.

His body seems to be wearing down, and he needs a pleasant, serene home where he can happily lounge and rest.

SPIN Pyrs are all in foster homes in the Dallas/Fort Worth area.  Potential adopters are asked to make travel arrangements if they live elsewhere. All SPIN dogs are spayed or neutered, current on vaccinations and on heartworm prevention. Please go to our website www.SpinRescue.org and fill out an application for this great Great Pyrenees!
